The Farmer’s Home is definitely not your average pub! While other pubs try to be all things to everyone, with lunches, discos, and everything-else-to-get-you-through-the-door thrown in, The Farmer’s Home has no gimmicks – and therein lays its appeal. If you’re in the right company, The Farmer’s Home is the place to be!
Situated in Strabane’s lively town centre, The Farmer’s, as it’s more commonly known, is a popular bar with both locals and those from further a field. Spend any given night in The Farmer’s and you’re sure to discover an eclectic mix of clientele, with men and women of all ages and from all backgrounds, rubbing shoulders with one another.
One of the main reasons for The Farmer’s widespread appeal is the design of the bar. Unlike most of the open-planned bars we see today, the Farmer’s is essentially an old house that’s been converted into a pub. All the rooms are intimate and full of character, with tea lights in the evenings, and a fire in most rooms during the colder months. It’s a great setting for friends to get together for a catch up and to have a bit of craic. And if there are any budding musicians amongst you, you can even ask behind the bar for a loan of a guitar for a singsong!
One of The Farmer’s greatest assets is the beer garden at the rear of the bar. Whereas some bars were badly affected by the smoking ban, the beer garden doubles up as a great smoking area. It’s very spacious and even quite picturesque, with picnic tables, flower beds, and even an apple tree! It really comes to life in the summertime, with free barbeques and live music at the weekends. These nights are definitely not to be missed!
The Farmer’s has a reputation for being a people’s bar. It’s clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the prices are amongst the lowest in the U.K. There are no televisions to suck you in, no jukebox blasting in the corner, and no fruit machines to fleece you. As a result it’s a great bar for socialising and getting to know people.
