Nice wee heritage museum in a very historically significant building, contains a good history of Fairfield Shipyard, Govan and that section of the Clyde. Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Do visit, do donate and do buy one of the range of gifts.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well worth visiting if interested in industrial heritage/Glasgow/Govan/the Clyde/ or Victorian buildings generally. The building is A listed and beautifully restored. Museum covers a lot of ground and doesn’t overly romanticise the past. I loved it. Free entry but donations encouraged.
A visit to Fairfield Heritage is a must for anyone interested in the history of shipbuilding on the Clyde. The building has been beautifully restored, the exhibits are informative and well laid out and the volunteers are welcoming and very well informed. Great history of Glasgow’s shipbuilding. Not too big. With ship models similar to those in the old transport museum.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Visited the Fairfield museum during recent time off. Fantastic building, excellent information and extremely friendly helpful staff. I never realised the part that the Clyde had on global shipbuilding and the information combined with the old items associated with the Fairfield shipyard is honestly brilliant. The two volunteers never caught the names of the two men were very helpful and enthusiastic. Entry is free I paid the 3 pound suggested donation and car parking at the side. You should definitely visit here if you have 1-2 hours and are in the area.
A real highlight of my visit to Glasgow. Govan is a nice place and this museum does the area credit. Beautiful, carefully restored building and a very interesting story, told by passionate voulenteers and ex-shipbuilders. A very special place.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A very nice and informative museum. Fantastic architectural features, some original funature. Great restoration. Hopefully more of the upper floor will be open to enjoy at some point. Well worth a visit.
Great wee museum with highly entertaining, kind and knowledgeable people telling you about the rich history of the place and the engineering marvels that have been brought to life on side. All in all, spend a really insightful and highly entertaining hour and support a local Glasgow institution.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
There are displays, models, and films here that cover the history of shipbuilding on the Clyde, particularly by Fairfield. I learned about the engineering of ships, but also about the working conditions and the effects on Govan. You could cruise through just looking at pictures in 1/2 hour. But if you're curious, as I was, give it more like 90 minutes. There's a tiny selection of things to buy, no café. Street parking only, not too crowded. Bus stop is near, or walk from Govan subway, all on sidewalks. Don't miss Govan Old Church and its amazing stones while you're here - 2/3 of the way back to the subway.
A hidden gem! This tiny museum has a huge heart. Even if you have only a passing interest in the history of shipbuilding on the Clyde, you will find this museum fascinating. I came with my elderly mum who grew up nearby and we were impressed by the beautifully restored building and the well-organised, informative exhibits. The volunteers, particularly Jim and Robert, were incredibly well knowledgable and patient, making our visit even more special. Thanks!
