I contacted Eternal City Tours to help me plan a private tour of the Vatican Museums and St. Peters. We had some special needs to accommodate for my family and knew that a private tour would be the only way to make it happen. I also preferred the tour to emphasize the spiritual aspect rather than just being an art museum tour. I communicated with several other tour companies before deciding on Eternal City. Tom was helpful and thoughtful in arranging our tour and ensuring what I wanted could work. Our tour guide was Ami, who has a backgroun in both art history and theology and some additional insider information as well. She was an amazing guide - so friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging for every one on our tour - from the 4 year old to the 75 year old. She wove together the history of the Church into the discussion of the art with a depth of knowledge that was a treat without being stuffy at all. We had done a basic group tour of the Vatican on a previous trip to Rome, and there is just no comparison.... The depth of knowledge of the guide, being able to tailor it to your family's needs and interests, and to engage each person is why you want a private tour. It can be hard to shell out the money for a private tour, but if it is an important part of your trip which, let's face it is probably already quite expensive, then go for it. Ami was the best tour guide of any we have had, and I would be very eager to do any other tour with her and would definitely book again with Eternal City.
I highly recommend Eternal City Tours! They are efficient and they can bring you to the holy places most tour companies would not include in their itinerary. I booked 4 Basilicas tour with Eternal City Tours and because we were staying across from St Peter's Basilica, we have seen everything we wanted to see so it was not necessary for us to go back. When our guide Blitch arrived, I asked him if we can include tours to see the relics at Sta Groce, St Alphonsus for the original painting of our Lady of Perpetual Help, Basilica of St Praxedes and La Scala. There was no problem at all. Blitch brought us in all these places so efficiently.
Absolutely incredible! Best tour guide I've ever seen. Over two hours without looking at a single note while remaining incredibly interesting too. Would book another tour with him in a minute if we had stayed longer in Rome.
Very informative and knowledgeable guides! Highly recommend this tour group.
