Big with plenty of machines and always a free one, that is a must for any modern gym. The free weight section is a bit messy and more order will do it good. Staff are not too pushy and I like that. The process to join and enter is incredible easy and price is reasonable and straightforward not with confusing fees or extra hidden payments. Overall a nice urban gym.
The location is great.apart from this I wouldn't recommend it. The music is too loud,it's like walking into a nightclub, dumbbells only go up to 50 kilo.not enough 1,2 and half kilo weights.you have to search all around the gym which ruins your workout.machines are constantly broken and take weeks to fix. Staff are not very friendly, and neither are the members, apart from the odd few.most of the members spend more time chatting and on their phones, which is really annoying.there's also a lack of gym etiquette. One member was chatting to a member of staff for 10 minutes or so.prior to this he was using a machine and stacked it with 25 kilo weights, and didn't bother to take them off.the staff member saw him do this and Did absolutely nothing.it seems they have their favourites and it's okay if you are one of them.if not you're completely ignored. Terrible gym.go elsewhere if you want to achieve your full potential.I have now cancelled my membership and I am looking for an alternative gym.
This gym is located in the Capitol shopping centre in Cardiff City centre, which is convenient for me. The monthly membership fee is very reasonably priced, and it is well equipped, clean, and the effective air conditioning makes it a comfortable environment to work in. The gym staff are friendly and helpful. For members who enjoy training in a group, they also offer daily group exercise classes at no extra cost. It also has a very good physiotherapy facility, which I have found helpful. My main reason for joining this gym was to strengthen my lower back and improve my general health. I am very fortunate to have a fantastic personal trainer, Mr Luke Routley. He has excellent knowledge about body training techniques, and is a fantastic motivator, who continues to help me push my physical limits in a safe and sustainable way, in order to achieve my health and fitness goals. Being a member here for almost a year, I can say that I really do enjoy training at this gym. It is my favourite gym in Cardiff.
If - like me - you just want to stick your headphones in and zone out for an hour or so this place is ideal. If you're bothered by a busy gym then give this a miss between 4 and 7 on a week day. Other than that, it's central location, 24hr access and low fee make this a great no-fuss gym for those seeking convenience and ease of access. As other reviews have mentioned there can be a lack of gym etiquette among some members, but again this can be side stepped by avoiding peak times.
Great gym. Worth your money. Staff could be a bit friendlier.
Pros: Convenient location and opening times. You don't need to pay membership and that the price is very reasonable. Machines and working-out materials are good. Enough lockers. Clean bathrooms. Nice staff and atmosphere. To be considered: Hairdryers in the changing rooms. Spinning classes would be great. Some classes during the evenings of the weekdays are very demanded body attack, yoga, body pump and body combat - more yoga and body combat should be considered. You can only sign up for up to 3 classes in a row so by the time you want to sign up for a class you normally go, the class is full maybe the system should be 15 booking spaces + 5 first come first served
I used this gym for a year and the experience got worse every day to the point where I could no longer stand going. Incredibly cramped, ridiculously crowded, music is horrendous and as loud as a nightclub and members have unbelievably poor gym etiquette. The staff do absolutely nothing - the toilets are disgusting with urine covering the floor and never any toilet role, and I've even seen shattered glass left on the floor of the gym for days. Free parking is good but I'd recommend looking at Dave's gym or PureGym.
Avoid if you are serious about your health & fitness. I can safely say that in my five years of training & exercise this is the worst gym I have been a member of. It's a great shame as on paper the price, location & 24 hour access should make it great. In reality however it suffers from these issues: 1 - Equipment quality and quantity. Considering it is in a prime spot on Queen Street you would expect it would be well stocked to cover the many people visiting it throughout the day. It is not. What little equipment there is has become bent and broken and is often unusable in the case of the bent barbells I would call it unsafe. Baffling is the fact that Dave's Gym only 20 minutes walk away has 2-3 times more equipment packed into a facility far smaller. 2 - Quality of staff This is not meant to be an indictment of everyone who works there as there are a handful of great trainers and staff members. Unfortunately, over half the staff I have found to sub-par. It is not uncommon to see a PT texting throughout a clients session and I witnessed a client being ignored by their PT for a full 5minutes at the start of their session so they could check their social media instead of coach. The cleanliness of the gym seems to pot-luck based on which cleaner is in and I have found cans and other rubbish left lying around for consecutive days, not to mention what may have been blood on one of the lifting platforms for nearly a week. 3 - Attitude of Membership From 4pm onwards the gym is not worth trying to attend. It is packed to the rafters with people simultaneously leaving their equipment lying around whilst trying to steal yours. I can only imagine to someone shy or new to the gym this would do nothing but put them off. I would say a lot of this comes from the laissez faire attitude of the majority of the staff who do little to enforce gym rules such as putting equipment away. Again this isn't always the case as there are a couple of trainers who make sure everything is always being put away and when they are on the floor the place is immaculate. The majority of the time however it is a messy place made messier.
There's a lot of mixed reviews here - I'll try and give a comprehensive review. Negatives: It does get busy. Come between 5 and 7 on a weekday especially earlier in the week and you'll struggle to do the things you want to do. You'll feel rushed by others, and everything will just take a while longer. Most things are automated. Most of the staff are the personal trainers, who are really lovely people, but might be busy with their clients. This has knock on effects on quality. For example, if a machine gets broken, it can be quite a while before it's fixed/replaced. But once you're in, you'll probably be fine without the need to seek assistance. If you're looking to workout without annoyingly loud and banging music, I'd recommend elsewhere. But tell me a cheap gym that isn't like that? Positives: It's really good value. £18.99 a month with no contract. I go 3-4 times a week, so it's less than £1.50 a session for me. For that, you get access to the entire gym. Personal trainers. The PTs have a range of experiences and are really friendly. I use a PT and he's introduced me to the gym really well, and I've come on leaps and bounds. Prices vary depending on each PT. They're self employed. The gym itself is good. Avoid after work on a weekday and you'll find you can do whatever you want. Go at lunchtime, or a morning, or a weekend, and you'll be fine. It's a bit of a basic design - get used to that mix of Easy orange and grey - but for the price, it's great. If you're looking for a city centre gym, especially on the Queen Street side of the city rather than the stadium eg PureGym, then it does the job nicely. It should get quieter in the new year, as JD Gym is opening nearby.
Maybe not the most plush or well equipped as some of the newer gyms which have popped up, but suits me perfectly. It's 2 mins from work, the membership is reasonable, it allows you free parking in Capitol when using the gym and the staff are fab. I have been using this gym for a couple of years now. I enlisted the help of personal trainer Kirsty Powell to help me get into strength training. The fact that I am still attending is testament to how much I enjoy, it as if I didn't, I'd be in Greggs There are plenty of machines and free weights and additional bits of kit for plyo training etc. They also have Pack 45 classes running pretty regularly if you want something structured without the cost of personal training. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming and Kirsty kicks my butt. I would highly recommend.
