Story

Right on the beach with spectacular views, we serve uncomplicated and fresh seafood made from the very best ingredients. Our iconic building has won more than 20 national and international awards for design and architecture.

East Beach Cafe is committed to sustainable fishing!

The food is simple seaside food, some English classics with a few of the best things from beach holidays abroad. Items on our menu include potted shrimp, fresh locally caught fish, smoked trout salad with pickles and horseradish, the East Beach Burger, salt and pepper squid with chilli, crab linguine, fish pie, fig and chestnut trifle and English apple crumble with custard.

We are committed to sourcing fish from sustainable sources, and do not serve cod, haddock or plaice. We source our produce locally wherever possible, and make the best of what each season has to offer changing our menus monthly. We also have great daily fish specials to make the most of what the day boats bring in.

We came here with my son, wife and 6 month old grandson without reservation on a Sat afternoon around 1ish.nIt was pretty full but we were lucky because one table was just leavingnI was approached by a lady, gave me a huge smile and straightaway, I knew I was into a winner.nThese days, the most you can get from staff is ‘no smile’. The worse is a frown’.nI told her I do not have a reservation and even have a 6 month old baby.nShe said , no problem, that table is just leaving.nShe said to wait for a while whilst she cleaned and set the table.nWe took the opportunity to put the baby to nap.nIt worked very well, the baby slept throughout the whole meal.nWe ordered 3 fish and chips, 1 burger.n2 coffees, 2 cold drinks and 1 spritzer.nThe bill came to £95.nVery reasonable.nThe food was good.nBatter in fish was light, burger was juicy.nNo complaints whatsoever.nThe staff were all very friendly which makes a difference.nParking is easy as there’s a huge parking area just by the cafe. ticket machinenThere is the fantastic seaview from the cafe.nEveryone once in a while, you get the seafront children train passing by.nWe had a good afternoon.
Like so many other people I use Google reviews to help decide where to visit. In this respect East Beach Café scores well and I had reasonably high hopes. Unfortunately these hopes were dashed and I've been trying to work out why.nnOn the positive front the café is in a great location next to the beach and the staff are very helpful. We enjoyed a pair of gin & tonics with our meal and that part was great.nnUnfortunately the food was a big let down both in terms of taste and price. I decided to try the carrot & pomegranate starter and what I received were two whole carrots with the fruit seeds arrayed on top. Which was just weird and not worth £7.nnFor the main I went with the Sussex smokie fish meal for £18 and sadly it sounded much better than the reality. There wasn't much fish to be found and meal itself was very salty. And never mind the over-cooked garlic bread! My partner went with the Goan aubergine curry at £15 and this certainly featured aubergine. A lot of aubergine!nnSo what went wrong? I can only imagine that they've got a new chef or that the regular chef in on holiday. Alternatively it could be that they're experts at cooking standard seaside food, such as fish and chips, but rather out of their depth elsewhere? It's a conundrum and all rather disappointing.
A great cafe/restaurant with great food. Children welcomed with crayons and colour-in menu to keep them amused whilst waiting.nIf we exclude the 2 children, the meal was about £30 per head, but we did have the catch of the day and the wonderful squid starters
We love this place. The fish and chips were fresh and hot and you can have proper peas if you don't like 'mucky' peas! We tried the knickerbocker glory too which was a hit. Visit one of their evening dinner and quizzes for a night out.
Went to get an early lunch/late breakfast. Asked for a sausage and egg roll and then a sausage roll. Waited a long time to be given the wrong food … a bacon and egg and then a sausage. Couldn’t be bothered to wait so much longer for the food to be done correctly so just ate it. People who ordered a long while after us got their food extremely quickly … looked like they had also ordered rolls. Food was nice, although wasn’t what I asked for.
