Dunn's Bakery is a reliable spot for a quick bite or fresh loaf of bread when you're in the neighborhood. While they might not be the most extraordinary bakery in town, they consistently deliver decent quality. I love Dunn’s. Their cakes nice. Their staffs are supper nice. I remember when I was pregnant my second child and I really wanted to it tiramisu but some of my friend said must check if the egg is well cooked for not, so I called to ask Dunn’s and I realised their customer service is just perfect, the one who picked the phone at first didn’t know about that as she only sale assistant but then after that the chef did give me a call back to explain. I have been their client for many years since I moved near CE and so my family. Kid-friendliness: Yes they are very kids friendly
From one of the former employee's experience: The atmosphere that you breathe at the entrance of the bakery might be sweet, but behind the counter, it is a completely different smell. Racist and classist system, hazing and bullying behavior from the oldest members of the team, poor training and working conditions, and an attitude of tacit complicity from the owner who seems to have no joy and purpose to improve and maintain his family legacy. The bakery survives only thanks to their loyal customers; I will give it a decade before declaring bankruptcy as many of the Crouch End businesses who have ignored the “change.” Their products are mainly kept for many days or frozen except for the “daily goods,” ignoring one of their core values so-called “freshness.” Give time to visit other businesses in the area such as Gail’s or Sourdough Sophia who care about their integrity and an inclusive environment.
Ordered a Taylor Swift birthday cake for my daughter. It showed four album covers from the Eras tour. It exceeded all expectations. A must for any fan of Taylor Swift. Great communication with Grace on the design and was just what we wanted. The cake was delicious and one of the nicest chocolate cakes we have tasted. I ordered vegan cupcakes for my child in this wonderful place, apparently I was mistaken and chose not vegan but regular ones, after which the nice girl at the bar said that they could offer me chocolate ones, but my daughter doesn't like chocolate ones, but for lack of anything else I agreed to this. Since it's her birthday today. After an hour of waiting I came to pick up new cupcakes and they baked me new vegan vanilla ones. What wonderful people work for you. Thank you very much for this, the child will be happy! It was very nice to be there, everyone is smiling and ready to help. I will definitely come back again.
Dunns did a fantastic job with our wedding cake. The service all along has been wonderful and they made the cake identical to the picture we shared as inspiration. We had so many compliments from guests about how delicious it was. We ordered vegan and gluten free cupcakes along side this which were also a huge hit! I would highly recommend!
After hearing glowing reviews about Dunns, I was excited to try it out today. Despite the shop being bustling, it seemed adequately staffed. However, my excitement turned to disappointment when, after waiting patiently in line for 5 minutes, I was twice bypassed by other customers. First, the lady who called for the next customer served someone behind me after making eye contact with me, and then it happened again with a tall male wearing a hat. It felt deliberate, as if we were invisible. When I raised this issue with another apologetic staff member, the tall male muttered something under his breath. Overall, it was a disheartening experience reminiscent of the discrimination prevalent in the 80s.
I used to love coming here but every other time I buy a pastry from them, the cream inside is gone off and cheesy. It’s gross. I’m pregnant and really don’t need the extra hassle of biting into something that is completely gone off. Others should be aware that they need to check things are fresh first before leaving the shop. A little tip: How about some stickers to show when produce has been made, and then rotating produce so you don’t sell it past it’s sell by date? You need to sort this out as it’s illegal to sell gone off food to the public! Check the food safety act.
UPDATE: What kind of business is leaving argumentative comebacks to unfavourable reviews in 2024? You could have said: "Sorry you were inconvenienced again, we'll take your feedback on board and make another dozen next week! If you're in doubt, give us a call before heading over and we'll gladly put some aside for you." If you care about the stars, don't wait another 200 years before learning some customer service. I can't believe you checked the CCTV down to the second to respond to that other person. Have you been huffing the yeast?! Reviews are based on how we feel. I feel I'm Dunn! 1/5. Good bakes, currently not worth the aggro. Original review: I love this place but if you're only going to make Chelsea buns on two days per week, you should make enough of them so that one greedy woman hasn't bought them all before 10am. Keeps happening.
Dunns in Crouch End is simply the best in all respects. My recent experience was a lovely birthday cake they baked for me at short notice with order placed on Dec 31st and delivered on Jan 02. The cake was deliciously looking and with just the right sweetness. Thank you especially to Natalia who was diligent in making sure she got my order correctly.
