Ireland's only full-size heritage railway, north or south, running steam trains through St. Patrick's Country. We are a registered charity (NIC 101640) and operated entirely by volunteers.

Story

The Downpatrick and County Down Railway operates trains through the drumlin countryside of County Down - St. Patrick's Country - over the Quoile River and under the graceful Down Cathedral.

With a mix of steam and diesel trains, as well as vintage carriages, museums, and a signal cabin, there's plenty for train fans of all ages - from wee kids to "big kids". Run by volunteers, society membership entitles you to free travel.

Good store. Helpful staff. Lots of variety including a clothes section "George's". And a home entertainment section. You can get most things here.

Do volunteer work there. Good place for a family visit enjoying a heritage steam or diesel train ride and seeing their carriage gallery with its display of restored carriages.

Great value for money children love the trains and special days eg easter and xmas. Very friendly, polite and helpful  staff, who volunteer, highly recommended

My toddler loved this. The train ride was fun and all the staff were very friendly

Santa train was very enjoyable and my 3yo son loved the 10 minute train ride to visit Santa at the station. The engine restoration  shed was great to see and walk around. I do hope they get the extra funding to extend the line on towards Ballydugan as the current line is very short.
