Located about 10 mins off the A38 North of Plymouth, this huge complex is a busy, well serviced NHS Trust Hospital. Stagecoach and Citibus run from the City centre at regular intervals, the car parking is ample and very well signposted with three large uncovered and one Multistorey car parks. The main entrance has a patient drop off directly outside adjacent to the many bus stops serving the local area. Once inside we were greeted with a volunteer offering help, a small reception area and a 24/7 Warrens Cafe, WH Smith and a league of friends shop. Toilets and lifts to all floors are situated near the entrance area. The toilets were spotlessly clean in the main building and the CT scan unit. The hospital was clean throughout our visit and the staff polite and helpful, masks are required everywhere. There is a 24/7 A&E and a Helipad!
Had to have minor surgery here for cancer. All the staff were very professional and the surgeon was first class; made me feel very at ease with the surgical procedure. Can't fault the treatment that I had here at all, and I don't think you would get any better by going private. Place was immaculately clean and the staff were very friendly.
I visited A&E in the late afternoon on a Friday and despite waiting for a long time with a work colleague had a very pleasant experience. The waiting area was calm and we were kept informed throughout. Tea/coffee and food was offered at regular intervals and the staff were wonderful and friendly. The waiting time was only due to the staff shortages being experienced across the country and these NHS workers should be entitled to the pay rises and working conditions they so rightly deserve.
I had an appendectomy yesterday in. I had to wait a long time, because of course there is a shortage of staff. Despite all that, everyone doctor, nurses, etc. was always nice and very helpful. I come from Austria and have never had such a good experience with a hospital. Thank you to all the staff for your efforts!
I cannot praise highly enough of all the Derriford staff. I was admitted via A&E onto the SAU. The staff were efficient kind and incredibly hard working. Derriford also has a patient discharge ward/ room which is a brilliant idea. Thank you for your support and kindness and the efficient way I was cared for. Xxx
I must say over the years I have lost faith in the NHS and I have Mid Essex Hospital trust to thank for this. However Derriford Hospital has rekindled my faith and trust, the reception staff and on duty nurses and staff were fantastic, I wish I could name everyone although my memory is a bit foggy of last night due to pain and blood loss, Dr Harry Theron was incredible, a professional in his field, yet showed great humility and fantastic interpersonal relationship skills, a huge thank you to everyone and Dr Theron for being 'you'
Staff are always chatting and on their phones, my brother 9 at the time waited 10 minutes for a check-up, so that's not bad, but we waited about 3 and a half hours for someone to start a procedure. they said he needs antistatic. They let him decide if he wants local or general, but the staff refused to explain to him what both of them meant. We said general, so that meant an operation for him. We should of had it at 6in the morning, and at the time it was 10 in the evening at the time. We were all ready for the operation, and someone who had a situation not as major had to use it. horrible.
Absolutely disgusting experience. Was left on CDU for 3 days before a Neurologist bothered to come and see me, apparently he didn't know I was there. They had no idea what I had, I had countless tests to diagnose Transverse myelitis caused by the covid vaccine. No follow-up from my so-called neurologist who only dealt with MS, one face to face appointment with his Physio who was not the slightest bit interested. Was told to put in an official complaint about this hospital and how I have been treated !!
Great when unwell, waiting times not great, but where aren't they, this is our NHS after all. Usually relatively nice staff, and from my experience, they look after you pretty well. Have their downfalls, but again, where doesn't, just sometimes some staff could do with a tad less salt. Overall relatively jolly good stuffs
Worst hospital I have ever encountered. Staff aren't very nice or helpful, whether its A and E or you have been sent by your GP, you are left waiting for inordinate lengths of time. Having recently been to truro hospital and having a much better experience, its really highlighted just how awful this hospital is. Terrible and pointless processes that leave patients waiting unnecessarily. So many levels you have to go through before getting the treatment you need. Its abysmal and shameful.
