This was a great station for both arrival and departure, with a modern design despite maintaining its history! The stairs are nice and modernised leading up to the bridge, station sign is a classic blue one on the flip side. Platforms are well-sized and cleanliness was solid, although the station building is a bit run down.
Operated and managed by Great Western Railway, Dawlish Station is soon to be improved along with the sea wall defences. It currently has a small chargeable car park, station cafe, toilets and lift access to the platforms.nLocal services to Plymouth, Paignton, Exeter and Exmouth at regular intervals.nThe station is right in the centre of town with cafes, shops, crazy golf and the coastal path.
Lovely steam train passing by this evening!
I was due to travel from Dawlish station this afternoon catching the 3.25pm train and a man was sat on the edge of the platform, obviously unhappy and distressed. The staff were amazing, calm, collected, professional and compassionate. It was a very sad situation but they handle it very very well, I was most impressed with all three staff, thank you. I hope the man concerned is safe and well and will receive the care he needs.
This lovely little stop on the Brunel designed coastal railway deserves a mention.nnA great deal of public money was spent relaying the track along this line which is one of the most scenic routes in England.nnThis stop offers easy access to the town of Dawlish with its famous black swans and gardens.nnAt times of bad weather the train can be seen braving the spray from waves as it makes its way along the line here.nnJust up the track at the tunnel toward Teignmouth is a brilliantly executed Banksy like piece of wall art of a boy with a catapult.
