I'm writing this review from the club. I'm a platinum member paying upfront for 12 months. I've signed up during the pandemic as this place was open with minimal restrictions in place unlike other gyms nearby. In general choice of the facilities is good such as a tennis courts, large gym floor, classes, swimming pool however considering the value of the membership cost £2000 per year I feel let down with many aspects. The place feels dated. There are only 3 toilets in the gents changing room which are falling apart. You need to actually queue to them. They stink and it's disgusting. The shower area covered in mould. Tiles are coming off the floor. Shower hose holder is coming off the wall. Saunas are below required temperature. The outdoor sauna which supposed to be the hottest one is not hot enough and you get terrible mould smell from the drain located inside - I think it can actually affect your health. What's worth to mention you are unable to use your guest pass for your child during the summer to take advantage of the outdoor pool. Also you get one guest pass per month. However it expires when unused - they don't add up. It's ridiculous. Renewal of my membership took nearly a month and multiple follow ups with the team. Reception suggested to buy a new membership £200 more expensive due to price increase as their customer service was to busy to serve you. Car park gates broken 90% of time. I will think where to go next year as currently if offers a premium price tag for low to average facilities.
The facilities are high quality, particularly for tennis with a good range of equipment. The spa area is generally clean with an impressive range of saunas and steam rooms. The sauna, however, is never at the advertised temperature so it’s difficult to gain the full benefits. The showers really let the place down with extremely poor levels of cleanliness and a fair amount of mould growth.
Club has become a joke with a pandemic of break ins to vehicles especially vans being targeted. My van has been broken into 3 times in the car park already, I also personally know 15 other van owners who all have had theirs broken into multiple times! David Lloyd know all about this but when you speak to them they refuse to take action with extra security they are telling us they can’t afford it, absolute joke they would rather their members vehicles get broken into than deal with it. The security barrier is always broken allowing the thief’s to come and go as they please. This is ridiculous so probably time cancel the membership and leave the club and I think and also a call to the news papers to name and shame them! Remember if you want you vehicle broken into make sure you visit this club as it will happen percent if you don’t want that steer clear !!
Honestly a really great club. Plenty of space, fabulous spa, great atmosphere. Really clean and well run. 5 stars.
Probably the worst customer service. Dishonest staff and lack of integrity. They do not value their members and are more concerned about their commission and how much the members pay. I was convinced to join in November on the basis that I will not be affected by the change in price if I joined before the New Year. I specifically asked when I would be affected by the increase in price and was advised when my membership renews, which would have been November 2024. They were also not clear on how much the prices would change by. To my surprise, they changed my price in January. They do not respond to emails and leave it to the membership team. I liaised with them for a month and the membership team would rather I call it for it quit than hear my concerns. Please also be aware that I have friends who have not been affected by the change in price so they are selective with who they want to overcharge.
Unbelievable facilities, price is set high for exclusivity but, you already knew that. Staff are very friendly and charismatic, food is top notch, places for children to play safely. Could easily spend hours here working, meeting or relaxing.
The staff sales are very dishonest and people should be made aware of their tactics. My story started last year, when I signed up for a 1 year membership in September, 2021. I was shown around the facility and after 30 mins sold into getting a membership. Sales guy said - the 1 year is a formality and I can cancel anytime if I needed too. 10 months after, July 2022, I had to move out of UK for few months on a work assignment. I emailed the gym asking my membership to be cancelled on 08-July. They said - please provide proof, like a utility bill or a lease agreement to make sure there isn’t a David Lloyd’s gym in a 10 mile radius for us to process your cancellation. This was news to me - I didn’t read the fine print, I assumed it would be fairly straightforward. Since I had recently left, it took me a bit to get a bill. I emailed my proof start of august, for the month they charged me - even after I told them I needed to cancel it. Now I’ve been charged 344 pounds for facilities I didn’t use - charged me for July and August. I expected a premium service for the amount I paid to use a gym and spa. Very disappointed. Expected more. Please sign any contract or document after reading it. The staff here isn’t honest or straightforward. They will hide behind fine print. A lesson learned for me.
The customer care is at best non existent. I had a query regarding child swimming lessons that was sold to me under very pressurised circumstances. Promised a 3 month contract if you sign today. This of course was to good to be true! I have know been charged an additional 3 months. When I enquired as to why I was told it’s in the contract you have to do 3 month blocks and give at least 1 months notice to stop. This would be ok if I had ever been sent a contract as requested. All of this was over email, when I called to speak to a manager/supervisor I was told by a receptionist that the manager is unwilling to talk to me. The restaurant area is always dirty, on one occasion food had been on the floor so long it caused an ant infestation. We where told a manger would come and talk to us…. They didn’t Staff always allow people in the spa with out membership cards this was sold to me as an exclusive area for Diamond members only! The child and parent spaces are always filled with work vans that clearly don’t have children with them. My car was also damaged in the car park the repairs of which cost £2000. The pool is constantly reduced to three lanes at the weekend at the busiest times and the slow, medium and fast lanes are always filled with different paced swimmers, it’s only a matter of time before an accident happens The pool it’s self is often dirty as no one takes showers before they enter.
This gym is fantastic, as it has all of the amenities you could want. All of the staff there are friendly and helpful too. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
Amazing facilities. 12 tennis courts, a gym, a spa, sauna and a bunch of other things. Definitely the most well maintained DL I’ve been to. Still a shame about the monthly cost, I do really think it’s too high at £170
