Darwin Brasserie

Story

20 Fenchurch Street is a commercial skyscraper in London that takes its name from its address on Fenchurch Street, in the historic City of London financial district. It has been nicknamed 'The walkie-talkie' because of its distinctive shape. Construction was completed in spring 2014, and the top-floor 'sky garden' was opened in January 2015. The 34-storey building is 160m tall, making it the sixth-tallest building in the City of London and the 12th tallest in London.Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and costing over £200 million, 20 Fenchurch Street features a highly distinctive top-heavy form which appears to burst upward and outward. A large viewing deck, bar and restaurants are included on the top three floors; these are, with restrictions, open to the public. The tower was originally proposed at nearly 200m tall but its design was scaled down after concerns about its visual impact on the nearby St Paul's Cathedral and Tower of London. It was subsequently approved in 2006 with the revised height. Even after the height reduction there were continued concerns from heritage groups about its impact on the surrounding area. The project was consequently the subject of a public inquiry; in 2007 this ruled in the developers' favour and the building was granted full planning permission. In 2015 it was awarded the Carbuncle Cup for the worst new building in the UK in the previous 12 months.OwnershipIn July 2017 the Hong Kong food company Lee Kum Kee Groups agreed to purchase the building from Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group for £1.3 billion.

Great evening with very good service. We ate early so that we could see the views in the daylight before dinner and then see London at night. All four of us enjoyed the food with a decent menu to choose from and a good choice for the vegetarian with us. Nice touch was a birthday offering for my wife’s 60 which we were celebrating. They do automatically add 13% for service to the bill.
Great view, atmosphere, and food. Staff was extremely polite as always. Our server Veronica made sure we feel great all the time. Thank you, Veronica and team. My brother had steak tartare, just perfect. My barn risotto was creamy and super delicious. My mom liked her Caesar salad. My dad said the lamb was chewy. I can't confirm if that was the case or not his preference of the way it was cooked, but I would recommend the management to double check it. This was my second visit, and it was great again. Thank you. I hope to be back soon!
Darwin Brasserie is a hidden gem in London that I didn’t know existed, and I’m so glad I discovered it. Everything about this place is fantastic, starting with the view—it’s simply magnificent! You can take countless pictures and enjoy the scenery while relaxing. Not only is it a great spot for breakfast, but it also offers a cozy atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee if you need a break from the bustling city. The 360-degree view is breathtaking, making it a perfect place to unwind. Both the breakfast and coffee were exceptional, and the overall experience was a solid 10/10. I highly recommend visiting Darwin Brasserie on your next trip; you won’t want to miss it!
Great location and experience for an occasion or a date night. The atmosphere and view makes up for most shortcomings. It isn't the best food I've had in London, or for that matter the cheapest. But I understand it's hard to haul food up and demand dictates prices of supply. That being said it's worth it for the experience, photos and conversation later on. The kids pasta portion was too generous, Sea Bream was probably the best dish of the night. Pulled pork Cobb is good, but a salad at the end of the day. Kid-friendliness: Very accommodating with a toddler even though babies are not allowed up after 18:00
A huge thank you to the foreign waiter who served us! Middle aged man with dark fading hair - serving between 9-10am! Absolutely outstanding! That man needs a raise! He was all over the place whilst the other staff seemed less interest! He was making everyone feel welcome! Honestly a credit to the restaurant!!!! Best waiter I’ve ever experienced! He made the experience 100 times better! All the staff were friendly - but he was outstanding!
We went as a group of 4 last night. Everything was impeccable, the service was very attentive to detail, our waiter Ali - I think Romanian was amazing! Will definitely go back. Only thing is: I booked for 4 people and I am pretty sure I booked for 4 I have the email confirmation but the hostess kept insisting, making it seem I was only expecting 2 guests rather than 3, when I am sure my booking was right. They even took us to a table with 3 menus and 3 sets even after knowing we were 4 which was odd, I had to ask for another set of cutlery and menu. Please make sure to train your staff better for reception, I did not appreciate the way it made me look in front of my guests. Apart from that, the rest of service was lovely and we all had a great time!
Set menu lunch enjoyed at Darwin. Standard menu something for everyone. Food was good for the price, service was efficient and decent wine list. Very busy dining room noisy and quite warm.Food: 4/5
Had low expectations since the sky garden in general is a tourist trap. Views are nice but with the glass tint on the deck, pictures are distorted. Odd that there's airport security to come upstairs; glass is fragile. As for the food, yes a bit pricey for fixed course meal but I thought it was apt for the location and food choices/size were real good. I've been to many places like Sears tower, Windows on the World, Hancock, etc where the food was awful. Here, the time/care and creativity were evident.
14/9/24 service was incredible and the staff were so lovely and so helpful with the menu the French girl was also really lovely too. The starters were quite disappointing and I was dissatisfied with the salmon it had little to no taste. But fortunately the mains really helped I had the steak and truffle fries which were beautifully presented and tasted great. I just wish they didn't add too much tomatoes on the steak lol. The desert was amazing too, I love meringue too so this was just a bonus for me honestly. Cheeseboard was nice too couldn't go wrong with it. Otherwise overall it was a pretty good experience and I would come back for drinks with friends.
The service was absolutely excellent. Every member of staff we encountered was top notch. Even as far the guy that was stood waiting in the background ready to hand me another serviette immediately after i'd used the one on my table. Absolutely fantastic. The Managers attitude and professionalism when accompanying the main course to the table due to an allergy of my partners. Everything about the place was 5*. The food was also very, very good. We were accommodated earlier than our booking and the staff worked well to find us our desired seat with dream view. Thank you. Its been a while since we have experienced service quite this good.
