A marvelous cinema. Excellent seats and attentive service.nnIt was on a day—typically rain-soaked for that region—that I decided to purchase a ticket for the next screening at the grand movie palace.nThe ticket clerk looked at me with his small, mole-like eyes, almost astonished to behold a human being at all. More than once he asked whether I was truly certain I wished to see this film. I assured him that I was.nnWhen I entered the auditorium, a bag of freshly popped popcorn tucked beneath my arm, and let my gaze wander expectantly across the rows, I was forced to realize that there was only a single other person present.nnI fumbled for my ticket and checked the seat number.nRow 7, Seat 12.nnSlowly I made my way down the rows, not a little unsettled to discover that Row 7 was precisely the one occupied by the other guest. I checked again—several times—but there was no doubt about it: he was seated in Seat 13. Directly beside mine.nnSo I sat down, after offering a brief greeting in his direction. He seemed not to notice me at all. In his left hand he held something I could not clearly make out. It flashed black and white and a brilliant red. Like a Ferrari.nnIn an effort to ease the awkwardness, I asked him his name.n“Roman,” he said.n“What a beautiful name,” I replied.nIn response, he mooed.nnI must have fallen asleep during the film. When I awoke, the theater was empty.nWell—not entirely.nnWhat I saw beside me is shown in the attached image.nnUnfortunately, I cannot say anything about the film itself, as I slept through most of it.
December 2025nWe went to see Frozen with our granddaughter.nThe staff were so caring and helpful going the extra mile.nThe cinema has a lovely bar with lots of old cinema projectors and memorabilia. It's a treat to see the venue bought back to life.nThe seats and viewing was good.nWell recommend.
Curzon Cinema and Arts is a wonderful spot for film lovers and anyone who enjoys a relaxed, creative atmosphere. The cinema itself is comfortable and beautifully maintained, with excellent sound and picture quality. It’s got that independent charm — showing a great mix of new releases, classics and art films you don’t always find elsewhere. The staff are friendly and clearly passionate about what they do, and the little café/bar area adds a nice touch for a pre-movie drink or chat. It’s more than just a cinema — it’s a cultural hub that really adds character to the town. Highly recommended!
I love it hear, worlds oldest, longest running cinema? Has a wonderful snug and cosy balcony. I've been coming here since I was little was my first ever cinema trip and by far always still my favourite
Without fail, it is always a fantastic experience. The film programme is expertly put together, ensuring something for everyone while remaining culturally stimulating and relevant. Independently run, this is the best cinema I’ve ever been to; it’s worth the 30-mile round trip for each visit.
