I have managed in various periods of my life to get some momentum going with gym work but the push, pull, legs routine of normal gym work just never maintained my interest like other sports. I came to Crossfit Exe as a way to stay fit and get strong during cycling offseason and moved from the trial week, to Pay Go classes, to a full subscription in a matter of months. Firstly CrossFit Exe is incredibly welcoming, well located and with great coaches. I travel with work and have sampled other Crossfit gyms which do not feel so personal larger classes, cavernous gyms and the workouts are not quite as hard. Crossfit Exe is chatty and friendly without jeopardising on the workout. Secondly CrossFit as a thing - I came in with my eyes wide open: 'if you want to join a cult, why this one?', 'do you think you can still get out?', 'are you posh enough for CrossFit?'. Whilst the KoolAid remains chilling in the fridge and I'm still not sure about certain acronyms, I do know that the variety of work and the blend of technique work followed by blowy workout is exactly what I'm looking for if I have an hour free. It's got me trying new things snatch, muscleups, split jerks and trying old things skipping, handstands all which has helped my cardio and strength.
Exe is such a great gym to be a part of. The people and coaches are so friendly and welcoming - The ‘new starter’ feeling quickly goes away! The programming is very varied and inclusive, with scaling options to suit everyone. I’ve been so well supported as a CrossFit newbie and would encourage anyone to give it a go!
This gym looks a bit daunting at first - warehouse feel, Olympic lifts going on everywhere and powerhouse athletes throwing up weight you'd dream of, on your first visit. But you should take the chance to take a step in and meet some of the most down to earth individuals I've had the pleasure of working with. Those people throwing up the weights are the same individuals who will professionally teach you to reach goals and push yourself. Not to mention make you feel like you're at home within the first hour and inviting you to so many social events you won't be able to support any other additions to the calendar. Definitely worth the investment for the expertise and community and so glad I stopped in.
I've been a part of this gym for the past 5 years and there's no sign of them getting rid of me any time soon. Jaime owner is a fantastic guy and his coaches are excellent. Not only is the coaching fantastic, I love the varied programming and ethos of the gym that CrossFit is for everyone. My favourite place to spend my evenings.
Great Crossfit gym, friendly staff with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I arrived as a novice to Crossfit but with some gym experience. I was made to feel very welcome and all the classes were scaled to meet my abilities. Great coaching has seen me learn lots of new skills and I feel my fitness continuously improving. Thoroughly recommended.
I have been to a few Crossfit gyms around the world, and this one trumps the lot! This is down to a mixture of fantastic, dedicated, encouraging coaches who know how to help you as an individual reach your potential, to an environment of fellow athletes, who are wonderful, down to earth gracious people - with no chips on shoulders or attitudes. The best hour of my day is always the one spent at Crossfit Exe, and the fitness, friendships and fun you gain make the whole of your life so much fuller.
Couldn't recommend CrossFit Exe enough. Moved to this box from a previous one, having started University again - I was nervous to relocate, but couldn't believe just how welcoming and friendly all the coaches and members were. The coaches are very knowledgable and are always more than happy to help, whether it be learning something new in class, or even with skills outside of classes too. Always such a fantastic atmosphere - Thank you!
I have been with CrossFit Exeter for 5 months, and I think that is the best gym I have never seen... Coaches are amazing, they make you LOVE this sport! When I started to join the gym, I was alone and I didn't know anyone, but after a few weeks, I meet new friends! Concerning the coach: Sofia is really kind and she is also good at explaining exercises, especially if you are not a native speaker and you have some problems with the language. Dell is really able to push you to do more, he is an amazing coach. Jaime is really really good too. Cerye and Rhiannon are more than super, I really liked. They are so cute and they really care about people that are in the gym. It has been an AMAZING experience. If you have never tried CrossFit before, you have to join the gym.
Update to below: I’ve now been a member here for 1 year, I’ve never been mentally tougher, physically fitter and stronger. I’ve made friends I never would have made and formed a lifelong habit. The community here really is incredible. Come along to class, you won’t regret it. Fantastic community. Welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly, fit and strong. As a total newbie I was welcomed with open arms by the team here, any nerves soon vanishing and it’s now the highlight of my week visiting the gang here. Couldn’t recommend it higher.
Was a member of another Crossfit club before relocating. Was nervous about leaving what I knew and joining the unknown. I need not have been! The ethos is great - what you put in, you get out - and the encouragement and coach led sessions are really good. There are no egos and even the competition standard members are friendly and supportive. Yes, it's a pain cave ! and various parts of me nearly always ache from DOMS. There are elements I will never excel in due my physicality and age, but no matter what your level is you are made welcome. It's a great club to be part of.
