Crab is usually such a hassle to eat, but dishes here come just with the meat or the soft shelled version so you can eat all. The set menu wasn't too bad, with 3 courses for £20. The crab and waffle was good. I could have had more as a main course rather than the small starter. Wheelchair access . There are a couple of steps in front of the entrance, but they even out at the sides although there are tables in the way so still tricky getting in, especially during rush hour, after work drinks time in the City. Once in, it's all accessible. Staff were also really accommodating and helpful too
Food was good. Staff friendly. Seating outside was damp. Seems that the leather outer layer was dry but the sponge underneath was wet . Lobster Burger was nice, if a little messy to eat. Not sure I would rush to go back. Plenty of other restaurants in the local area to try first
I am thoroughly convinced that the freshest seafood in London can be found on Broadgate Circle, in the center of the dining hub. The food at the Crab Tavern is flavorful and filling, and the entire dining experience is awesome. The restaurant design is quirky, with cartoon crabs decorating the walls next to the booth we sat in. The table was cozy and comfortable, and when our excellent server brought our food to the table, it was so uniquely presented. The chef has found a way to take seafood and plate it so it is almost a work of art. We ordered a cold platter for the table, and it was overflowing with crab claws, tiger prawns, shrimp and a half of a lobster! The whole crab was served with rapeseed mayo right in the shell, and the crispy croutons were a great addition to balance out the succulent crab. The tender meat of the grilled whole lobster had a melt in your mouth texture that paired perfectly with garlic butter. The entire night was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I’ve had since I’ve been in London for the last ten years. The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed custom-crafted cocktails with our dinner, which are one of Crab Tavern’s specialties. The whole experience was awesome, and I highly recommend Crab Tavern to anyone wondering where they should spend their time in Broadgate Circle. The seafood is not only the freshest, but the service and atmosphere add to the delicious food to make it the ultimate dining experience!
Don't know why I didn't post this sooner! I went here for my 24th birthday last October and the service was amazing. They really made me feel special, gave me a free drink and a birthday cake with my hot platter. I was convinced I could finish the platter by myself because I'm that much of a seafood lover; but I was more than happy to share with my other guests. I must say the food was seasoned to perfection! I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a great appreciation for seafood X
Unfortunately the location is the best point I can make. Staff were nice enough but inexperienced to be fair. Menu seemed good on paper but in reality was small and bland crab croquettes, calamari, lobster burger, bok choi, side salad. Also the restaurant area would really benefit from a glass partition from the busy bar area. That said would consider returning for food in 6 months to check for improvement.
Visited this restaurant using the 2 courses for £16 deal offered by Time Out. This in itself was misleading, as we were only offered a limited menu which is not mentioned in the offer and whilst my crab and waffle starter was lovely, it was half the size of those ordered as part of the a la carte menu. The lobster burger could have done with some dressing or a side dish - which we weren't given an option to order separately. However the main downer of our experience was the service; staff just seemed depressed and uninterested. Our plates were cleared quickly enough but then we were left for 30 minutes, not sure if we needed to ask for the bill, as the deal was prepaid and we ordered nothing else; but with nobody in sight to ask, we decided to put our coats on to leave. All of a sudden two staff members ran up to accuse us of leaving without paying! Turned out that we owed a compulsory service charge - another item not mentioned on our voucher T&C's, and the service we received was not worth 12.5% which we felt blackmailed into paying. A slightly sour note for what was supposed to be a nice meal out as part of my birthday.
The food was amazing but the service was crazy bad. Waitstaff that don't know the menu or speak English very well had to repeat each of our orders three times, to the point where we asked if we should Write it out for her she was copying it down off the menu long wait to get anyone's attention to order or get another glass of wine , server literally came over and told my client to "finish his starter quicker as the main was ready. Then we waited another 10 minutes for the main
Crab Tavern is basic. Basic at a high price. For the same portion/quality, I feel like you could get the same thing elsewhere for about half the price. Three friends and I came in for dinner on a Tuesday at around 8 pm. The place was pretty empty. It seemed that most of its patrons were just hanging around the bar for some after work drinks. I ordered some kind of linguine with crab and mussels. There was barely any crab in there. The dish overall was basic - probably something I could have made better at home. However, I did like the parmesan crisps that were served on top of it. I stole their idea and made it myself at home, and it was AMAZING For drinks, I had the Basil Bay vodka, crushed basil leaves, lemon & sugar. I asked them not to put any sugar, but it still tasted pretty sweet. Plus there was barely any alcohol in it. It was really just a basil lemonade. It also took forever to come out. I ordered it as I was finishing up my meal. I didn't actually receive it until after we let them know we didn't want dessert, and right before the bill. On top of all this, our waiter was not friendly and pretty inattentive. He wasn't rude about anything but he just seemed like he couldn't be bothered to do anything for us. We had to constantly flag him down just to get some water. 100% would not recommend Crab Tavern....but I am appreciative of the parmesan crisp idea, I'll give credit where it's due.
Well... don't be fooled thinking they sell crab. It may seem ridiculous especially when they are called 'CRAB' Tavern but its worth calling before hand. I did a search for crab online and this place came on top with their large selection of crab dishes. I was out that night with friends who enjoy their steak so this seemed the obvious match. After booking a table and ordering a few rounds it was finally time to order the meal... Of course I knew what I wanted so I began ordering the crab. They told me they don't have the king crab, so I ordered the mixed crab platter. That wasn't available either, after a bit of probing the waiter told us there was no crab on the menu what so ever. Being too late in the evening and a table of people hungry friends I had to order a meat dish. If only they told us the minute they knew we was eating. FYI the friends said steak was 6/10
Nice food but unusually chilly service. Definitely caters to the City drinking crowd rather than the quiet diner. Despite it being a quiet Wednesday night, music was pumping out of a speaker right above our heads, and it was turned back up within minutes of us asking to turn it down.
