We booked the whole house for a stay rather than using it as a B&B. It is a good size house for 11 people and with some improvements I would give it a 4 star rating. It's in a good location with the centre of Morpeth within walking distance and easy access to the A1. The hot tub is a great bonus. Overall we had a nice time, if some of the small improvements I've listed below had been in place then I think I would have given 4 stars. There are some small improvements that could be made in the short term that would have improved our stay or managed our expectations. It was advertised as having parking for 6 cars and this isn't the case, it is 3 cars or maybe 4 small cars at most. The owners use one of the spaces. There isn't enough seating at the table for 11 people which isn't great when this is how many the house is supposed to accommodate. We ended up creating a kids table in the conservatory using a table from the hallway and chairs from the rooms. If you advertise the house for 11 people it should have enough space at a dining table for that many. Similarly, in the lounge there was only seating for 5-6 people. We moved in some of the chairs from the conservatory. It's difficult to provide seating for that many people in a lounge but perhaps provide some bean bags etc that kids could use. There weren't 11 sets of cutlery, mugs and bowls. Luckily the kids generally ate earlier than the adults so we'd wash up in between but having stayed in similar places in the past I'd say it's a basic thing to have double the amount of cutlery and crockery for the amount of people the house sleeps so you are not frequently washing up on your holiday! In the longer term, it would be good if the kitchen and dining room were combined as the kitchen is not built for a large group and it would make it a more sociable space if a couple of people are cooking they could still chat to the rest of the group. The house needs some TLC and a couple of the bathrooms are in need of updating.
Lovely break with my family. House great for a large family. Everything you could possibly want and need. The reasons therefore for only 3 stars is that when the house is updated a little new owner has recently bought it it will certainly rate more stars. But broken showers, water temperature unreliable scalding or cold, no good for children toilet seats falling off, runners in built in wardrobes unreliable is the reason for only 3 stars
Lady was lovely. Breakfast was great. Cleanliness was apauling. Had to clean toliet, sink and shower glad I carry disinfectant wipes. dirt and dust balls on wooden floor including a decomposing wasp ! carpet had not been hovered between bedroom and bathroom. The room was freezing. 15 to 17 degrees. I am not a cold person but went to bed fully clothed at 9pm. don't normally get in bed until 10.30pm. still had cold feet at 2am. was clean and comfy bed. floorboards creak upstairs when owner is moving around. large cobwebs proved a problem as I hate spiders. had paid for 2 nights. Did not go back for the 2nd. she can keep the money to deep clean the room! never experienced anything like this before and I am 46 years old
Got a discount booking online. Convenient location at top of city centre, 30 minute walk to the train station. Totally silent at night, couldn't hear any traffic. Breakfast fruit was picked in the owner's allotment the previous afternoon. Room was ready despite me booking only two hours in advance. Room was a funny shape resulting in it being clumsy and having less space than there should have been, but was lovely. Robe provided to reach tiny bathroom across the hall. WiFi was good until signal disappeared in middle of night. Vegetarian breakfast cooked from 7AM. Offered to dry my wet clothes. Would stay again.
Ive stayed in this place with the former owner liz and doug and once with the new owners at the time and its a great place to stay great brekkie and superb rooms ul sleep like a log . Private carpark too so no parking on the street or a public car park . Its just out of the town so its fine and quiet . Great place i cant praise it high enough. Not bn in for a few years . But it was a great experience for my wife and i . Anyway . 10 out of 10 . .. ian innes ..
Great host. Rooms a bit old fashioned and need of update. Breakfasts are fabulous.
Best digs ever! Clean, comfortable, good food, quiet and peaceful.
