A very unexpected find of such an important historical piece in the middle of a public area. Was well impressed with what role it played in the history of the Saxon period.
If you want to see the relocated coronation stone for some pivotal Anglo-Saxon kings who established England as the longest standing unitary nation state, this small parcel of land between Kingston Guildhall and the police station is the place to visit.
Stunning piece of British history. 7 kings coronated on this 1100 years ago
The plaque outlining the story of this stone needs a clean, it's pretty hard to read some of it. Otherwise worth a quick stop if you're in town.
Interesting bit of history if you happen to be passing. Sorry to be pedantic but some reviews suggest that this is the origin of the name Kingston ... it isn't. The name derives from old english for kings town or manor.
The stone on which the first English kings were coronated. Now housed outside the Kingston upon Thames town council buildings.
Interesting passing point to see if you like history - where seven or eight? kings sat for their coronations at St Mary's in Kingston the stone was moved when St Mary's fell down in 1730 but you can still see where the church was . Right next to Clattern bridge too which dates from before 1293.
Interesting bit of history
Good historical things!
A must see for every history fan.
