Recommend you book in advance. Food is as expected from a pub... unless you just walked the West Highland Way, in which case, it's the best food on the planet. Bar service only... Which for some odd reason means if you want a starter, main, and dessert you better order them separately as you complete each course. If you order them all at the same time, you WILL get them all at the same time. This is particularly troublesome if you order a dessert that comes with ice cream as you will need to eat this first. I would love to give them 5 stars, but the weird timing for the delivery of food was really off putting.
Really nice pub, perfect after climbing the hills. Great chips! If you're chili intolerant make sure you check upon ordering if these are in, food descriptions didn't have them in. The views of course are incredible.
Good stop for beer and food on the West Highland Way You order at bar, make sure that after ordering you take you cutlery with you because your meal will land on the table and then you will be asked to fetch it yourself, hate that really it was very busy because somehow people that check in to the hotel next door go to the bar and block it all asking staff questions etc and you have to wait quite a while to order a beer or dessert.... the food was good and quite unusual to have beef pie with all beef on the plate in gravy and pie as a separate almost roll looking like thing that you can then mix with that beef and gravy, can't complain because it was a lot of beef and it was tender cheese cake was delicious and a really good deal with ice cream would come bck for more thank you
Whilst waiting in line at the bar after a good walk up Ben Lomond, I was taken aback at the anti-English sentiment coming out of the older more rotund bar staff member serving customers. I'm not even English myself but felt very uncomfortable as there were obviously a few English people in ear shot trying to enjoy their food who could hear his comments. It's a shame because the pub has great views, but is unnecessarily ruined by its lack of taste in staff/owner.
After a very cold and rainy day we arrived at the Clansman Bar to eat something warm. But they were everything but hospitable! We had to eat outside in the rain because we did not make a reservation, while there were still a lot of tables available! The food was also not great. We ordered beef burgers WITH cheese but that was nowhere to be found on our burgers. I hope I never have to eat here again!
Looks better in the photos here than it is in real life - there’s only a relatively small area which is the rustic and cosy stone fire area. The rest is an annexe and the area outside could do with some tidying up. It’s looking a bit scruffy and could do with a clean and lick of paint e.g. there’s a 2015/2016 premier league sticker in the window - time to take it down?. The food itself was ok but overpriced. The soup was £4.95 for a small albeit tasty bowl and a roll - just not amazing enough to justify the price. The fish tasted fresh and was a big portion, and the halloumi fries were lovely. Finally, I had a grumble about the service - I was called up to the bar and, as I started talking, the barman turned his back on me to shout to someone in the room behind, ignoring me. It’s not rocket science!
Visited on a wet Saturday in October, we had a lunch and a pint of Guinness. Both the food and the Guinness were very good. Good friendly atmosphere.
Watch out for the car park scam. We visited the place for dinner on the 22nd of oct, and we parked at the ROWARDENNAN hotel which I believe operates this bar. I got smacked with a 100 parking ticket for parking in the establishments parking lot. Similar experiences of other drivers can be found on sites. watch out!
Welcoming pub and hotel with excellent facilities. Delicious food and stunning views. After climbing Ben Lomond we visited this charming pub and tried the burger and chips. It didn’t disappoint. Looking out on to the views of the Loch was a perfect end to a glorious day. Staff were friendly, parking was good and food was of a good standard. Would recommend, also good for travellers walking the West Highland Way.
These kind of places don’t have to be good because of their location so it’s a nice surprise when the pub style food is bang on! It’s not overly fancy - just right. Credit to the chef and staff.
