Churchill Optical has provided designer eyewear and first class eyecare since 1921. We’re committed to providing the best possible service to our customers
At Churchill Optical, we tailor each eye examination to each individual’s needs. We perform a number of tests on everyone as standard and some extra tests when required depending on their symptoms or needs. These include:
1 GLAUCOMA TEST A puff of air from the Tonometer tests the pressure of your eyes to check for Glaucoma.
2 SYMPTOMS, GENERAL HEALTH AND LIFESTYLE REQUIRMENTS
Tell us about any problems with your eyes, your health and what you do in your spare time that requires vision correction, e.g. Golf, Swimming etc. This will help us tailor the eye test for your individual needs and investigate any problems you may have.
3 SPECTACLE CHECK
We can tell if there is a change in your eyesight since your last eye test by checking your existing spectacles on one of our special instruments.
4 VISION TEST
Your vision will be checked with and without glasses
5 CO-ORDINATION TESTS
Your eye movements and co-ordination are checked.
6 RETINOSCOPY
We shine a light into your eye to give us a starting point for your eyetest. In some young children this is how we work out there prescription even if they can’t speak yet.
7 CLEARER OR BLURRED TEST
Different lenses will be placed in front of your eyes while looking at the big chart with the letters on it. You will be asked is it better or worse? Is it clearer or blurred? Don’t worry, you can’t give the wrong answer!
8 RED GREEN TEST
Try to make the black circles on the red and green panels equal, it’s not easy.
9 DISTORTION TEST
Almost everyone has rugby ball shaped eyes (astigmatism) and the black circles on the white chart are used to detect it and correct it!
10 BLUR TEST
To ensure maximum comfort with your new spectacles or contact lenses we may do a blur test on each eye depending on your prescription.
11 SMALL PRINT READING TEST
Your ability to see small print is checked and measured. If you are over 40 years of age you will probably require reading glasses or varifocals.
12 DROPS TEST
We may need to put drops into your eyes to make your pupils (black part of eye) bigger to allow us a better view of the inside of your eye.
13 EXTERNAL EYE HEALTH CHECKS
We shine another light onto the front surface of your eye and using a microscope we can get a detailed look at the front of your eyes.
14 PERIPHERAL VISION TEST
We might need to check your side vision by using a machine that flashes small lights and you can count them as they flash up around the sides of your vision.
15 COLOUR VISION TEST
12% of Boys and 0.5% of girls have a colour vision deficiency so we may need to check this.
16 HEALTH TEST
We shine various lights into your eyes to check the eye health and now have specialist retinal camera’s that digitally photograph the back of your eye so we can monitor your eye health.
Having completed the tests that are required for your individual needs we are then in the best position to advise you on the health of your eyes and what are the best solutions to any vision problems you may have and provide advice on glasses or contact lenses suitable to your needs.
