Oh chop house. What a fantastic restaurant you are. My wife and I had dinner here as our last date in Edinburgh before leaving back home, and it was worth every pound. From the wine to the steak, everything was served to perfection. Even though it is somewhat pricey, the price makes up for the absolute beast of a meal we got. I didn't even want to brush my teeth before going to bed that evening, just to savour the taste. The atmosphere is pretty good, and we were served great drinks at the bar before being showed our table. There were no cats though.
Chop House specialises in Steak, specifically their Porterhouse and Chateaubriand, other classic brasserie dishes available including Rotisserie Chicken and Steak Burger, but plenty of other options and sides. Great wine list and Cocktail List. All served my experienced Chefs, Waiting staff and Bartenders, friendly, polite and Knowledgeable. One of three venues in Edinburgh this one is small but beautiful, located in the famous Edinburgh arches it houses two floors the first set on a mezzanine. Good toilet facilities. All in all a great experience, pricing reasonable, you can spend a little or alot depending on your tastes. Highly recommended.
Absolutely incredible! From the atmosphere to the service and drink list, Chop House ticks all the boxes. The lobster was one of the best I've ever had, and the rest of my family loved their steaks. The wait staff made sure we had everything we could want and went above and beyond. Highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious night out in Edinburgh!
We had a lovely meal at The Chop House, the spare ribs were great as were the huge onion rings, steak and chicken. The chimichurri sauce was exceptional! 4/5 stars due to the salty fries which reminded me of salt and vinegar crisps. The lager in frozen pint glass washed it down well.
Cocktails great. Great prawn tempura starter. Mains were Steak Sourdough and Coal Roasted Chicken. The chicken was moist and well cooked. The steak sourdough has a minimal amount of steak and the sourdough bread was burnt. Both came with extremely thin, dry, cold and flavourless crisp type chips. These ruined both dishes as they just make the dish hard work. They should swap these out for GKB style thin chips or the thicker potato skin type. The staff/service was good. Chop House, sort out those 'crisps' and I think you'll get a better dish for those that come with them.
Such great service for food and at bar! Great cocktails - don’t miss the roasted mallow Manhattan ! It was delicious and not super sweet as one might suspect. Fried chili prawns were yummy appetizer. Ribeye was a nice big piece of meat and I enjoyed the burger.
Came here on Christmas Eve for dinner and was unfortunately not impressed. We had a table reservation and expected to be seated in reasonable time, but was left waiting in the bar area for 25-30 minutes before being seated without any apology. For our mains, we ordered the Monkfish Satay and the Steak Sourdough. The monkfish was both fishy a sign of it being unfresh and under seasoned. The satay sauce was decent but did not add anything to the dish. The kimchi salt fries just tasted like regular fries with no flavour and made us think we had covid got a test the day after and we were negative. The steak was tough and the sourdough was chewy. The straw fries were also too oily. For the sides, we had the Truffle Caesar salad, which was decent, and the Mac and cheese which again was tasteless. When it came to the bill we were asked to tip despite there already being a 10% service charge added. Having refused to add a tip and being told that service charge was not included, we were surprised with the 10% charge added to the card machine meaning that we ended up paying the extra 10% anyway. Unfortunately by the time we noticed this we had already paid. This review would’ve been 1 star, but for benefit of doubt, the place seemed understaffed and busy during this period and we didn’t get the main steak dishes that might have been better. Overall, not worth the money - food was average at best and service left a lot to be desired.
Mediocre experience overall considering the price. The food was good however the service wasn’t great, barely seemed like the servers were bothered. The steaks came out quite overdone that we had to send them back and it took at least 20 minutes to get a new steak and we’d already eaten half our sides by then. To be fair to the restaurant, they did bring out fresh sides with the new steaks however at this point our appetite had gone after waiting 45 min total for our meals and finishing our drinks. Overall I’d expect a place that’s specialty is steaks to get it right the first time as this was the main reason we had gone.
We ate here last time we visited Edinburgh and it was so good we came again during our second visit. My wife loves a good steak and they make a cracking one! I had the Monkfish pictured and it's was so good I actually ordered a second! You could argue there's not enough in one portion but I'd say it's just that damn tasty! Great service and they have kids menus available too
Chop House is a steak house which does amazing steaks. Whenever I’m on a trip, there will always be a steak night so I made sure to reserve dinner here. They have 3 branches you can choose from, wherever is closest to you, this one we visited is in Market Street.
