After buying all my kit from Chiltern, I was very pleased. However, 8 months on, with a lot more experience and a lot of hindsight, I have realised how useless my experience was. Yes, I am happy with my riser and the limbs I have, I love. My arrows - they look great, but they suck. With the knowledge I have now, when I bought my bow, I should have had my arrow length checked and my draw weight (not the limb weight). Based on this, I should have had a recommended arrow spine. Rather than being correctly measured, I was just given some arrows and told they would do! I now need to go out and buy some arrows fit for purpose which will cost me more money! Still, at least my club will now have a few spare arrows for beginners!!!

My wife & I took the beginners course, with excellent guidance from Laura and the team. Also great advice from Gary when we purchased the gear. Have been going back regularly since to shoot at their indoor range.

On Saturday I went to an archery shop near to where I live (not Chiltern Archery) luckily they were too busy to serve me straight away and I got to watch them in action with other customers who they pressured into buying expensive gear that they did not need. I left and drove to Chiltern Archery which was recommended by a friend, it is a lot further from where I live but it turned out to be worth every mile of the drive!! On arriving at Chiltern Archery I was immediately impressed by the range of stock they had in the store. I was approached by one of the members of staff and they asked if they could help. I explained that my son and I were just starting out shooting recurve bows and were looking for a complete set of gear each. The gentleman who served us asked if we had a budget in mind so that he could tailor his recommendations to both our needs and our budget. Throughout the process of selecting all of the equipment that we would need we were given an array of choices and at no point were we pressured to go for an expensive option, take for example the riser, we were shown about 8 different risers ranging in price and the one we chose ended up being the 3rd least expensive simply because it was the one that felt the most comfortable to hold. With every option we were told the pros and cons of each item and the decision on what to pick was 100% ours. Once the components of the bow were collected and assembled we fired them to make sure we were happy with how they were set up. I think that was the best 6 arrows I have ever shot!! On the bows that we selected Chiltern Archery offer a Limb Exchange scheme where every 6 months you take your limbs back to the store and they exchange them for a new pair of the same or greater poundage at no cost. I am still trying to get my head round how they can do that but I am not going to argue!! When all was said and done and the final bill was totalled up we had spent under 2/3 of the budget we originally set. As I walked out of the shop I was content knowing that I had bought the right equipment for me and at a price I was happy with. I will absolutely be recommending this shop to anyone that I know who is in the market for any archery equipment. Thanks guys, keep up the good work!!

Disappointingly unhelpful. Despite saying we were new to Archery and needed kit, the proprietor didn't offer to help or summon the energy to come out from behind his computer to try and sell anything. I made an hour and a halfs round trip to spend a decent amount of money and came away with nothing. I will try elsewhere in future. A shame really as the other reviews led me to try this place.
