Established in 2016, Chestnut House is fast becoming THE place to shop on Ullswater, located in the heart of Pooley Bridge, adjacent to the newly refurbished Crown Inn, we are an independently run off licence, food, drink and outdoor clothing store.

Run by a small but hard working team of 5 staff, we pride ourselves on stocking locally sourced products and we always aim to provide the highest levels of service, both in store and online.

Open 7 days a week, carrying over 150 different gins, 70 Cumbrian real ales, a plethora of Cumbrian spirits and liqueurs, and an eclectic mix of food, drink and outdoor clothing, there really is something for everyone.

A huge selection of wonderful gins, vodkas, whiskeys and mixers. There was a well-versed bloke outside giving samples and generally being friendly, he was really interesting to talk to and knew a lot about the products he was offering. Inside the shops is a wide, wide selection of spirits from pure to flavoured to liqueurs. The staff were all really friendly and they couldn’t be more helpful. Everyone seemed to have a great experience here and despite being somewhat pricey we were happy to spend some time admiring the selection and purchasing some gin.

Amazing shop with an almost magical selection of drinks. The staff are friendly and helpful with a great knowledge of the products. A must place to visit if your in the area.

What a wonderfull place. Went in to buy a cauli and spent £50. Not on a cauli but on one of their brilliant selection of gins. Got the chance to taste a few others. If you are in the area doooo visit this fantastic food and booze emporium. Thanks guys, keep up the good work. Hail independant retail.

A spontaneous visit to Chestnut House broadened our knowledge of fantastic gins and other liqueurs. The staff go above and beyond to cater to your every need, extremely welcoming from start to finish with Darren having an extremely extensive knowledge of the varieties they stock in the shop. We were more than happily encouraged to taste test anything which took our eye which gives the customer that little bit more when coming to choose, if such choice is possible with such a large range of stock! Do not look any further than Chestnut House for all your needs. Living locally we will definitely be back!

What a magical shop full of amazing unique drinks. Unicorn tears gin is next on the shopping list. Very helpful, friendly staff! Darren had lots of knowledge of the products and impressed me with his knowledge of the use of hydrangea in Sharish 😀 I will definitely be returning!
