As mentioned by the owner in many replies to negative reviews, this shop is not for everyone. And she’s right; this shop is definitely not for everyone who expect to be treated with respect during their visit.
In response to HL’s review on race, I am the “black lady” that was at Cenci on the Saturday trying on the VINTAGE sunglasses. Respectfully, you completely misread the situation. Deedee is the sweetest, kindest, most intelligent, and accommodating person that I have ever come across in a while. She is a strong and confident woman and perhaps that intimidated you, but that is her best asset. I have been a regular customer at Cenci for several months and from day 1, I was embraced with love and warmth which is why I consistently go there every Saturday because they’re like family now. What you witnessed was merely banter between friends not a buyer/seller relationship and as such honesty is important. In fact, it was me that mentioned the case about about breaking and paying first because I did not want to force a tiny pair of sunglasses on my face just in case it broke, that’s how the conversation came up. I said that I didn’t want to break and pay for it and Deedee just agreed with me. Furthermore, I actually witnessed you guys there for more than an hour and TRUST ME, they were so patient and accommodating to the 5 of you with your diverse requests, you tore the place apart. Massimo even let one of you face-time your friend to see the handbags, something that is forbidden in their shop, but they made an exception for you and your “humble friends”. You should be more appreciative of the service that you got. I know they bent over backwards for you, on one of the hottest days of the year no less.
This place is the most interesting vintage clothing shop that I have ever visited. There is so much culture, history and ambiance to the place. I felt welcomed from the moment I came in: Exceptional service from start to finish. I could have stayed all day. The clothes are luxurious, unique and beautiful pieces of history and fashion. Massimo and Dede were just a burst of enthusiasm and passion and warmth. Amazing experience.
Be aware of clothes moths and a very rude unfriendly woman in the shop. One of the most terrible shopping experience in my life. Not only my humble Asian friends and I were treated by her arrogant attitude badly. When a black lady was trying on the accessories and sunglasses, she was told she has to pay if she breaks anything. Hope that’s not about our races, I see the woman treated someone else the same from the other comments. Also we found a secondhand H&M T-shirts selling £12 in the store.
This place is an absolute hidden gem. They have such a gorgeous range of clothing and accessories, and both owners know so much about fashion - you can tell they are passionate about what they do which is lovely to see. Amazing prices for such high quality items which is extremely hard to find nowadays. You could easily spend an hour looking through all the beautiful clothing, if not longer.
Nice selection of things, but quite a heavy and serious atmosphere, so I decided to go away very soon and not continue browsing. Staff seemed knowledgeable and able to help with finding stuff if you know what exactly you need. As a side note - to enter the shop, you need to call a doorbell and wait for the staff to open the door.
The best vintage clothing experience I have had in London. The gentleman that helped me was passionate and extremely knowledgeable. You pay for quality goods and service. I dont usually feel compelled to write reviews but this shop is fantastic, I am so happy with my new suit.
Indeed this is an amazing vintage shop. I would have given this shop a five star review if it wasn’t for the woman in charge. I’m not asking for a super friendly treatment, but for the time we were there this woman was being quite rude almost like her intention was to make as feel dumb and uncomfortable. We bought some stuff but to be honest I won’t go back. It is not worth it.
Great shop. Very knowledgeable staff. However the owners left me wishing that I didn’t know how to speak Italian : Me and my partner had looked forwards to making the long trip to get there together. We left within minutes of arrival as the way we were being discussed made me very uncomfortable indeed.
The lady who runs this may not have the shiny customer service veneer that other reviews are negative about, but she'll give you solid advice and is such a character. Some of the best affordable vintage in London. Be prepared to rummage, and do as your told!
