Tables were booked in advanced for a group of 6 to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. Small venue but we were welcomed and seated in a polite manner. Food and drinks were ordered and arrived in a timely fashion. Although starter and main portions were questionable, they also seemed to lack that authentic Jamacian taste, as told by our Jamacian friend. Price is subjective but the portions could have been bit bigger given the price tag. We were all enjoying the occasion until the waiter came and kindly asked us if he could take one of our tables and swap it for a smaller one to seat some new customers whilst he could see one of our friends was still eating, which seemed unprofessional. However, we didn't wish to make an issue over it at the time and let him rearrange the tables. About 5 mins after paying the bill one of the waitresses came along and asked if we could kindly leave and make way for new customers. That seemed a bit unexpected and rude, which left most of us annoyed but we quietly made for the exit to enjoy the birthday somewhere else. With regards to the food, which was a new experience for some of us, we were hoping a bit more heat but our Jamaican friend was not impressed and said the food wasn't that great in his cultural experience. Although the gentleman apologised for moving the tables we weren't offered a discount of any sort or free drinks or desserts for the discomfort caused. We hope to try a different carribrean restaurant for a better experience.
We went for a hen do from London. The other Caribbean restart I initially made a reservation were unorganised and lost my details and were fully booked. I called up this restaurant last minute and although they were busy they took me and the girls with open arms. The food is amazing, definitely recommend the garlic giant prawns. The portions are a decent size too. I had the medley delight. Tasted amazing. I was so full I didn't get to try the sexy punch I initially wanted at the beginning. When I'm next up in Birmingham I'll definitely be there again. In the mean time they should consider opening up a branch in London!
NEVER AGAIN! Firstly the owner tried to sit us in the front of house which was like a cafe, until we said we wanted to go in the back which was an interesting looking restaurant. We ordered 2 starters between the four of us and a main, the one starter was king prawns which we received 3 prawns and took 20mins, I wouldn't mind but there was only 4 other people in the restaurant. The mains were very basic, the flying fish was dry and covered in BBQ sauce. The male toliet smelled like a sewer. Overall the portions were small, well over-priced, average at best and slow service. I wouldn't come here again.
Well where do I start, went here last night with a group of friends and was really hungry and excited to try their food. We was shown to our table promptly and our order was taken however it then took us a further 2 hours to receive our food!!! Totally unacceptable, no apology or nothing about how long we waited. Then too top it off 2 items off my order were missing when I asked where they was i was told I never ordered them. Then told sorry but they went to another table!!! They then took a further 10 minutes to return. The jerk shrimps which I paid £5.50 for we're disgusting and just seemed like they were heated up and covered with jerk sause!!! The curry chicken was beautifully cooked, but the portion of rice I recieved was so small I wouldn't even serve that to my 6 year old. All in all the food was okay, but certainly not worth the 2 hour Waite. Then to top it off we all paid separately for what we had eaten then when we went to leave the lady had the cheek to ask us how come we never paid the service charge of £7 something. At this point I was fuming she really expected us to pay over £7 just to sit around their table and recieve terrible service I don't think so love!!! We then asked if it was compulsory to pay it she said no at that point we left. I will most certainly not be returning, and not because of their food but simple because their customer service skills are rubbish. I feel they have bitten of more than they can chew only 2 staff in the kitchen cooking food on a busy Saturday night certainly not acceptable.
I've been here many times with many different people. Everytime has been great. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere and mood is great. Don't come here expecting fast food. But do expect great food and great service. You can have a chat with the staff and please enjoy the homemade rum baba for pudding!
Poor service, had to wait so long for a drink at the bar after 10 minutes waiting, my food was luke warm. The price of drinks were more than Broadsheet on a night out! I asked to take my slice of rum cake away and the response was they didn’t do that! Until I had to apply pressure for a napkin or cling film. In the end it was foil wrapped.... she could have just offered this in the first instance. Could have spent £70 elsewhere for a better ambiance & vibe & meal. Not even a radio playing in the background... first & last visit.
this is so close to home, personally it just reminds me of my grandparents cooking. its my favourite home grown restaurant. i love the atmosphere the smell and taste of food the staff are great. by far the best Caribbean restaurant in the west midlands! <3
HIGHLY RECCOMMEND...This place is amazing, the best Caribbean in all of birmingham by far, it never fails to deliver! the jerk chicken is marinated but also the flavours are injected all thoughout the succulent chicken. The curry goat is to die for and if your lucky to have room for dessert after a juicy rum punch which punches a kick, then your in for a delightful suprise! the staff are so kind and respectful, they always smile, which is nice to see as some places I have been the staff are miserable! I don't usually tip but for 5 stars it's hard not to, it's well deserved. The owner is a delight to speak to, if I remember rightly his name is Clyde so pleasant and passionate, he even organised my wedding last year for an outstanding buffet all of my guests well apreciated, I hope this buisness succeeds and goes far!
Very terrible customer serivice. Ordered £36 worth of food to only recieve £25 worth with no drinks. I called the shop and explained what had happened and i was told that the driver will not be delivering the rest of my stuff as he as a deliver to do. So i then asked for a refund witch i have been refused and told that i should wait till tomorrow and he will deliver the rest of my food. Very very dissapointed also ordered jerk chicken witch was sweet and tasted like bbq chicken to me. Will not be going back.
Update: Still my favorite restaurant in Birmingham. I want to try other things on the menu, but the jerk chicken is so good... and the banana flambe. Really, really nice Jerk Chicken and Vegetable Curry. Reasonable prices and great service.
