A real treat and great find by pure luck but you can't miss this for ambiance, service and food. Suspect the drinks are as good as the food which was spectacular. Best seafood casserole this seafood lover has, to my recollection, ever had. My compliments to the kitchen.
A wonderful spot with great hospitality. Our server, James was an amazing host. We had a group of 8 and we were able to make a reservation night of. The food was absolutely delicious. Quirky decor with a great vibe.
Amazing food and place! Slightly on the pricier side and outside of the main tourist area, but definitely worth the effort!
Best pub I’ve ever been to in the UK and there were a few: • quaint atmospheric ambience; • top food, as tasteful as the music and decor uniquely Edinburgh, but certainly much posher than most; • excellent service, waiters as friendly and authentic as the regulars frequenting this gem Want to enjoy a memorable meal in good company - look no further, you won’t find any better. Definitely will invite my ould man for a treat here. AAA*
Tradition that always brings a smile.Canny man's is atmospheric lovingly quirky and always a joy. Not been in a few years but it was just awesome as a venue to meet up with friends and share some more happy times. Beer, wine, whisky and food all excellent. If you are visiting Edinburgh it's a must!
The Canny Man's is Edinburgh's most characterful pub and restaurant. It's a brilliant place to have a drink, and it is even better to done there. The food is exceptional and the staff are great. Love it.
I've given it 3 stars as some people will not like this pub. One of the strangest bars I've been to, but very interesting. The only place I've been that serves you a gin and tonic with a glance cherry in a crystal glass!
Older bar-man is rude, pointed and has no manners. Place has charm but is dusty and could do with a refurb. I didn't try the food but I can think of many better places to go.
As ever, a great experience when on can get in, but guidance on reliable opening times urgently needed, as these have become extremely arbitrary. One would have thought that every business needed as many customers as possible to see themselves though these continuingly difficult post-covid times, so that being turned away when one is prepared to spend money on good beer, because staff have locked-up early for the night, is an unwelcome surprise. Please, please do continue to support the Canny Man's as your first point of contact if they will let you in Canny Man's - please do provide accurate and reliable opening times 7 days a week to avoid arguments, because we absolutely do need institutions like this to survive and prosper, even if they themselves don't seem to understand how the business model has changed over that last 2-3 years. However, there are several other august institutions around that part of Morningside and beyond e.g., Bennett's, Maxwell Street; the Hermitage at the bottom of Comiston Road; Bellfield Taproom & Beer Garden in Abbeyhill and the Old Eastway Tap on Easter Road that will happily take your money for a 'half-and-half' and much else besides if the Canny Man's has given up for the night.
We had a “lively” dinner for 12 in a private room of The Canny Man’s last night and want to let them know how grateful we are for the excellent food, drink and service. A memorably happy time was had by us all.
