CalDigit TS3 Plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock - 85W Charging, 7X USB 3.1 Ports, USB-C Gen 2, DisplayPort, UHS-II SD Card Slot, LAN, Optical Out, for 2016+ MacBook Pro & PC Space Grey - 0.7m/2.3ft Cable Initially this device is great, supplies power, UI ports galore for peripherals and connects extra screens all with one cable connected to MacBook. But then issues developed over time. Firstly the 10Gbps port on back didn’t work, I contacted Caldigit, back in 2018… lack luster customer service via back and fourth emails, just lead me to give up… just didn’t seem worth the energy. Cut to 2 odd years later and I noticed that all the ports are loose on the back. They worked, but… whatever you do just don’t touch the device or everything disconnects! Also sometimes the screen connection would fail and or audio too and the only way I found to resolve this was to unplug the Thunderbolt 3 cable from USB C port and plug it into different one. Sometimes I would have to do this repeatedly and or power off my computer – reboot whole system and it would come back. I had an issue previously with Apple regarding a laptop, who was good enough to resolve it by following “The Sale of Goods Act, which now called the Consumer Rights Act 2015” Which stipulates that beyond the manufacture warranty you are covered up to 6 years for a repair, replacement or refund. Cut to 2023 and the problem is worse now, you breath on the device it just disconnects and the blue led power light doesn’t work, is it on? I think so. I emailed CalDigit and sent a video link see video stating the problem and requested a repair and or replacement. They stated it was out of warranty and they no longer do repairs on faulty parts. Based on that statement they admitted to a known issue with the device. They kept sighting 2 year manufacture warranty and that it was outside of that, I kept sighting “Consumer Rights Act 2015” and they just kept parroting back 2 years and contact Amazon as it was bought through them. The last email I asked them “what is life expectancy of the device?” I never had a reply. I then when on to contact Amazon. Again stating “Consumer Rights Act 2015” I stated I’d be happy if it was repaired and or replaced with like item even open box as long as it works. I got told by a customer assistant Sikunder on 3-3-2023 that they would review the situation and come back to me in 24-48hrs via phone call. No phone call no email nothing. I attempted to get a call back on 20-3-2023 via the Amazon web page. Every attempt made it failed to call me. They couldn’t connect to my phone, same phone number I have had for more then 12 years, associated with account and mobile I was called back on 3-3-2023 – very strange? I switched tact and contacted and advisor via chat, eventually after a lot of frustration and wasted time I had to call them and be connected to an Amazon customer service representative Nevat. Explained everything… he sighted 2 year manufacture warranty and I sighted “Consumer Rights Act 2015” and around in a loop we went. He suggested contacting the manufacture. I told him I had already done that and he just parroted same stuff over an over. I asked to speak to supervisor – connected to Nikhil and same narrative, we can’t change anything it’s beyond 2 years etc. I’ll never buy another CalDigit device. Beside the fact the device is faulty, their customer service is appalling. If you are spending more than £200 on a device it should last beyond 2 years it should last by law in the UK up to 6 years. Buyer beware!!!
For me buying CalDigit TS+ dock became one of the worst hardware experiences I've ever had in my life. This is a beautiful, shiny piece of hardware targeting hipsters with MacBooks who occasionally also need to do some real work. So naturally I had to buy it. I got it together with my MacBook directly from Apple Netherlands. The happiness ended as soon as I started using it. Since day one I've had random disconnects, power cycles and so on, just endless problems. It happened very irregularly, maybe 1-5x per week For example, you insert a USB device e.g. webcam and this sad thing power cycles. Or just restarts out of the blue for no obvious reason. I talked to Caldigit support twice. They are polite until you need actual help. Then the reality check ... first of all it turns out the support is only in UK. Then they tell you they really don't like replacing their products because of the chip crisis. So if they turn it on and can't see the problem well they'll just send it back to you. I had to pay for the postage myself of course, filled out the customs declarations. They had it for weeks, promised to get back to me before Easter, then forgot about it. In the end they found nothing and decided to send it back to me, as defective as it was when I sent it to them. In the meantime I bought a cheap used Dell dock. I paid 4x less than for CalDigit and have not had problems since. Everything just works! I have not had one single disconnect! So my 2 cents ... CalDigit is basically a scam for people who want a good looking dock. This is not a mature product. This is not a mature company. You will regret it as soon as something goes wrong. And something it will go wrong since this is a poorly designed piece of hardware. I regret buying it and I will stick to my cheap used Dell dock. I will sell this one for whatever I get or I'll use it as an overpriced doorstop. Hopefully a job it can handle.
The support team is quick and reliable, and my issue was sorted within minutes over the phone.
