Why?

Founded in 1999, Cairn is now a team of specialists in residential property investment. Managing Director David Rowand saw that his estate agency clients could benefit from more that sales or purchase advice and help with negotiation. Property assets could deliver more return with the right development, refurbishment, letting management and property maintenance programmes. Cairn began as a property company, developing and selling on existing properties. Now it works mainly with investor clients – sourcing, developing, managing and selling residential investment properties to maximise return for their owners.

I lived at my flat for 3 years with Cairn and I had a few issues with them. When I moved into the property there was no heating or hot water and I was also under the impression the property would have been cleaned to a ‘professional’ standard as I was asked to do so when vacating but it absolutely was not. I did have to pay for a cleaner to come in and clean the place fully before I moved in. There was mould and dampness in the bedroom which actually ruined bits of furniture. The shower was changed when I moved in but even after this the shower still never worked temperature wise I was either burned or frozen by water and after multiple times reporting this I was told by the plumber sent out ‘you just need to live with it’. The right window in the living room was cracked when I moved in and this was changed when reported but when this was changed the window was cracked AGAIN by whoever put it in and left after me AGAIN reporting it, also with the left window in the living room being steamed in between the glazing which was also reported. The boiler stopped working and I had 3/4 different people come out to tell me it was working to which it was not, this was very frustrating to have all these different people come in and out to fix one problem. Also the amount of inspections is not ok and does honestly feel an invasion of privacy. I had a male inspector come out to the property to do an inspection and as prior I had advised the agency I was I was looking after my friends dog so they already knew there was a dog in the property from time to time but he proceeded to come into the property and comment on the smell which I found VERY unprofessional and uncalled for.
Moved in a few months ago to a rental property. I have had a good experience with cairn so far, and have received prompt response on replacing things that were broken on arrival. I would recommend. Thank you jacqui and the team
They were great when Safah was our property manager. After that it took months for repairs, endless calling and emailing to get a response - and that’s even if you got one. They’d say “they’re really busy” but emails take a minute or two to write. Extremely frustrating company and couldn’t care less about the tenants. Money hungry company. Don’t trust em!
If you a black plz don’t bother and don’t a Viewing The experience was terrible, the guy that was there for the viewing was so cold towards us. It was so obvious that he didn’t like our kind cause my husband tried speaking to him, he refused to look up from the paper he was looking at and murmured an okay. My husband opened the French window in the living room and he told him that he is not supposed to open any doors without asking . What’s the point of going for a viewing if we can’t look at things properly. It’s disappointing to say the least.
Took time off work to view a flat, had paid for a taxi to get there just to be told they had the wrong keys so would have done another the day, didn’t even apologise. I texted the agent about when it would be possible to reschedule and only then did he apologise. I emailed the agency and they haven’t bothered to respond. It’s just an absolute muck about
Would have given negative stars if possible! Never rent a property from Cairn. My flat mates and I rented with them for our last year of university and had a plethora of issues with them. Firstly the flat was filthy when we moved in after it had apparently been ‘professionally cleaned’. It then took then 2 weeks to send someone out to clean it and they were in the flat for 5 mins and cleaned nothing. There was a damp spot growing black mould in one of the bedrooms that was reported at least 4 time and they did nothing to fix it and did not respond. The sink leaked loads of water all over the kitchen when ever we washed dishes we reported it at least 5 times and they did nothing to fix it. The buzzer was broken from the day we moved in and we reported numerous times eventually someone came out 3 weeks later and fail to fix it and it was left broken for the remainder of the let. We were then sent a threading email during our exam period about a party we apparently had while no one was in the flat. This email threatened us with eviction and ASBOs. We eventually after weeks managed to make it clear that none of us were in the flat on the date of the complaint and it was in flat another flat in building. This involved threading and condensing meetings with Carin in our flat in the middle of the workday and was very disruptive to our studying and uni projects in our finial masters year. Then when we moved out we were charge for cleaning £150 even though the flat was immaculate when we moved out. We were also billed for mattresses even though they were stained when we moved in. It took over 7 months to reclaim our deposit of 3300 for the flat as we had to dispute so mush of it and in the end had to give in as we needed the money. In summary our letting experience from Carin was horrific no response to emails/phone calls, no flat maintenance and a complete disregard for their tenants. Not to mention the fist fills of money they took off of our deposit because they could. *Not to mention no fire training, extractor fan was brick the whole time never fixed.
From a landlord's perspective, Cairns have really shaken up my perceptions about letting agencies. I've had really negative experiences with letting agencies in the past and swore I would never deal with them again. However, circumstances change and following an excellent recommendation from one of their contractors, I have been letting with Cairns for 18 months and have found them to be really helpful. Any concerns have been dealt with swiftly. They have ensured that the property has been fully compliant with legislation so that the tenant is safe. I was very impressed that they kept me updated on tenants' checks and gave me frank and honest advice, when required. I am also extremely happy with the tenant. She has kept the property immaculate. I've been really happy with the great service I have received from Cairns.
I have used Cairn on a property in Glasgow since February 2023 and their approach has generally been excellent. Communication is very important and I’m pleased with how the Cairn team interact with the tenant, ensuring things are flagged to me quickly and fixed.
Jacqui helped us with our renting and post renting processes. She solved all of our problems and was always kind and friendly thank you for everything.
Excellent service from start to finish. Jenny managed the sale of my house and kept me updated many times throughout the day with what was going on. She ensured that everything ran smoothly and I felt very comfortable with the handling of the sale. When I come to sell my next property, I’ll know exactly where I’ll be going to!
