A sure candidate for the absolute worst bus station in the nation, not that you can actually call a kiosk-sized waiting-room with overhanging canopy, a 'station'. It's actually an over-sized bus shelter, & absolutely pathetic that a town campaigning for city status cannot provide a better excuse for a bus station than this. Just compare Colchester to nearby Ipswich, a town of similar size but with at least 4 separate bus stations...
Waiting room, such as it is, was closed. This is not a bus station but a row of bus stops. The old bus station had a cafe and toilets. National Express don't use it any more so it's a 10 minute walk to reach the coach stop on East Hill/High Street. Council should have upgraded the old bus station instead of building the art centre.
Waited at correct stop fo bus 75 due 2.05pm.the driver had parked at other end of bus stops out of our sight as road has a bend. 2.05 came and bus drove past us 5 waiting passengers
Shocking! Those responsible for public transport in Colchester need to make vital improvements for the greater good. Coming out of this station as a visitor is such a shock on a number of levels, so dire with hugh roundabouts and without a decent Bus stop Route Service, which is really terrible for visitors, and moreover forces local people to use their own cars creating extra traffic hence, plenty of ghastly pollution. A Bus service near the Railways Station is vital for both commuters and visitors alike for Colchester, and let's not over look the elderly and people with mobility health issues that need to use the Buses. Plus, the vicinity needs containers filled with sessional flowers to help bring beauty, after all the world over believes the UK to be garden/plant lovers.
Used to be a nice place to visit. Sadly now it is just a meeting spot for drunks. If you are with children try to avoid this area due to open alcohol consumption and bad language.
Not a bus station as anyone would expect to see. Just a collection of bus stops in a row with a small waiting room which is closed some of the time. Apparently bus drivers don't like it as it's too congested and passengers don't because of lack of facilities.
This is NOT a bus station! It is a glorified bus stop with a small, uninviting waiting room containing timetable boards which do not list National Express coaches. The toilet facilities are a fair walk away. The refreshment facility is a temporary trailer which was obviously an after thought. There are no staff on hand to answer questions, so if you're not sure about something you're either on your own or you could try asking one of the surly bus drivers, who can usually be found standing around moaning about their jobs. There is a First Bus office, but it would have been silly to locate this at the actual 'bus station' so they've put it in a completely different street about 200m from the waiting room. There is no arriva office or staff on site. Busses arrive to find nowhere to stop, so have to double park and block the road. There is nowhere to stop and drop passengers, unload luggage etc. This is a poor excuse for a bus station, which is a shame for those of us who remember the old bus station off Queens Street. Which has never been redeveloped.
The council has always suffered from delusions of grandeur so when it was offered a subsidy to build a prestigious, but totally unneeded, white elephant of an art centre, it not only agreed but gave the old central bus station away as its site: who cares about the poor and even less the handicapped who cannot or will not use a car, or about the rate payers who will have to fork out for ever to maintain this "free gift"? They added a small and seldom manned information kiosk to a distant bus stop and called that the new "bus station." Shame on them, but this council has no shame, whether its majority be Tory, Liberal or Labour, or even a "no working majority." Sorry I had to give it even an unmerited single star to get my review published.
There are many problems with this new coach station. Firstly, the closest parking area, vineyard street, is always very busy, which makes it very difficult to drop someone off. There really should have been a drop off area. Secondly, the "indoor" sitting area is locked on some days, especially during the night, when you would need it most! Also, I put indoor is quotation marks since the building, which is made of glass, has huge openings which makes it really cold anyway! To be honest, they just made it this way so it looked good, without any thought to its practicality. Finally, the location of this bus station is really awkward. There is a traffic pile up every time multiple buses arrive and want to leave at the same time. The old location was much better. The only redeeming feature is the little coffee kiosk thing.
This so-called 'bus station' is an embarassement to Colchester! Some of the shelters smell of urine, there is an air of Third World about it and enough undesirables to make you feel you should keep your head down and eye contact will give you a punch in the face! Even worse in the evening and if you are a tourist either British or foreign avoid at all costs!
