An unbelievably poor experience, framed by terrible communication and guidance.

My Fiancee and I used Buchanan Dickson Frame as our solicitor to oversee the conveyancing for the purchase of our house last year - this was a miserable experience for many reasons, most of which can be attributed directly to our dealings with Buchanan Dixon Frame. 

We chose this solicitor late June/early July last year, due to its location to our residence at that time, and were assigned David Frame, one of the partners at the firm. We had already decided on a property and were ready to submit an offer. Even during the early stages of dealing with David, I became very aware that communication was incredibly slow and one sided - I would frequently wait days in between sending an email or making a call to his secretary and receiving a reply, and each stage of the process required a considerable amount of input and "pushing" from our end. We told David of our intentions to move into the property by the end of August, a date which we had confirmed directly with the seller and which David assured would be suitable.

The first major issue which arose was that David took 2 weeks annual leave in the middle of the acceptance of our final offer. This would be understandable, except that he did not inform us of this at any point in the email or phone correspondence we had just prior to his absence. Additionally, we were only told of this when I continued to chase David for an update, and was eventually emailed by his secretary to be told of his time off. 

A few days after David returned, we had a meeting to hand in documents and discuss things - this was around two weeks before our agreed upon move in date. However, we were told at this meeting that the move in date we were initially promised would probably be difficult and that we should consider moving the entry date forward at least a week. We were furious about this, given that we had made arrangements for moving into our home that day and strongly pushed to have the move in date only moved forward a few days - to the 30th of August. After this meeting, communication remained slow and largely one sided.

Unbelievably, with one week to go until our move in date, David again went on two week annual leave, without informing us at any point. A day or so after this, we were reassigned to a different solicitor - Aisha Hussain. This was done unceremoniously and without warning - additionally Aisha was seemingly not brought up to speed with our case and was unaware of most of the details.

Just like with David, communication with Aisha was almost entirely one sided and we would frequently have to wait until the next day for a reply, or call several times in a day to get through to her. During this time our move in date was moved back again - to the 31st of August - which meant further cost on our end to reschedule services for the move in date, as well as inconveniencing both the seller of the property (who was nothing but patient through this whole process) and our family and friends who had offered to help us move.

Despite all this, we were told by Aisha that everything would be settled up by the 31st and that we could collect our keys on that date. This, also, turned out to not be true - we were told on the 31st that this could no longer occur and that the move in date was to be pushed back again, to the 1st of September.

Dealing with David and Aisha at Buchanan Dickson Frame was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had as with so called professionals in my life, and my description above only covers the most major of the issues we faced in dealing with them. The way we were treated throughout the process I can only describe as abhorrent with almost no redeeming qualities, other than teaching us that it really does matter to choose to work with a quality firm for matters such as these. Learn from our mistake, choose a quality solicitor who will value your custom and stay far away from Buchanan Dickson Frame.
