Buchanan Bus Station

Story

Buchanan bus station is the main bus terminus in Glasgow, Scotland. The bus station is the terminus for journeys between the city and other towns in United Kingdom and international journeys. It was originally built in 1977, close to the former site of Buchanan Street railway station which was closed in the 1960s by the Beeching Axe. The construction of the station realigned the intersection between Parliamentary Road and Sauchiehall Street, a section of the former being renamed as Killermont Street, which runs along the southern edge of the station. It is operated by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, who inherited it from their predecessor agency, Strathclyde Passenger Transport, who in turn acquired it from Scottish Citylink in 1993. This development saw the consolidation of all bus services in Glasgow to the station, with all routes transferred from the Anderston Centre terminus, which was subsequently closed. It is the biggest bus station in Scotland, with around 1,700 bus journeys departing from the station every day, with over 40,000 passengers using these journeys on a daily basis. It is within walking distance of Glasgow Queen Street railway station and Cowcaddens and Buchanan Street subway stations. There is a bus link serving the bus station, Queen Street and Central stations.

I went there this evening as all the trains to Carlisle had been cancelled. I spoke to a girl called Sarah, she was really helpful and pleasant even though they had just that minute closed for the evening, I’m very grateful she took the time and helped me book a ticket for the National Express, she was so patient and which was needed as I was so anxious, I even forgot my own phone number! Which I needed for the ticket. 10/10 for customer service
Staff are great but why on earth in this day and age does Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow still charge 30p to use the toilets when its free in Scotrail's Central Station. And even then why not have card facilities to pay - this is the 21st Century isn't it? Tourists must be baffled and commuters baffled and angry!
A woman with brown hair served me at the ticket office. She was very helpful and accommodating. I'm Autistic and quite prone to being stressed on journeys. Made the whole experience so much easier.
There is an amazing lady on shift tonight 08/09/2022 who works for SPT she has blonde hair and glasses and is the most kind and caring lady I have ever met in my life what a credit she is to SPT she has gone out of her way to help everyone tonight and even when it's been busy or a bit of a tricky situation she's kept calm, cool, collected and has just been absolutely wonderful to everyone she's communicated with. Thought I would feel vulnerable in a city I've never visited waiting for the bus late at night but I couldn't feel any safer knowing this lady is here.
For only Bus Station in Glasgow City, its services are dreadful. After 17.30 no one at information desk, you are told to go online Desk should be manned entire tine bus station is open. What if someone required help but have no access to Internet/ do not come from Glasgow They have closed all information points, utterly disgraceful. You need to get Customer Advisor back on floors/ information and make Glasgow proud. Bus Station is sheer embarrassment
National Express coach half an hour later than advertised no info on there website and no one to ask at the bus station. Toilets 30p and left luggage closed. All in all not a good experience.
How is it possible that in 2023 you need to pay to use the toilet? Almost every mall, station, etc has the option for a free toilet. Not only that you have to have coins with you, but you arent's allowed to use the card!!! It is a disgrace! Toilets should be a normal facility not a luxury!!!
When we were there the shops were closed , so make sure you stock up on food and drink before. The stations very clean and well maintained.
Disabled Toilets Should be locked at all times, so that people registered to use them with a radar key can do so without crazy queue times, as every man, woman, child and junkie currently uses it and it should be monitered
I am a 57 year old English woman, I travelled through bucanan Street bus station, Glasgow on the 21/09/2022. I had had a terrible family trauma, I was lost, I was crying, I was so alone and in need of help.I GOT NO HELP, INFACT I GOT MISLED TWICE LIKE IT DIDNT MATTER. I WAS SENT TO THE WRONG STOP, AND I MISSED MY BUS HOME TO SHEFFIELD. I WAS IGNORED AND BASICALLY TREAT LIKE A NOBODY , I JUST DID NOT SEEM TO MATTER such arrogant ignorant staff, I recommend you avoid this station if you are English,,, SERIOUSLY I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED SO MUCH RACISM, and cold cold human beings
