Booth Mansion

Story

Booth Mansion is a former town house at 28–34 Watergate Street, Chester, Cheshire, England. It contains a portion of the Chester Rows, is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is included in the English Heritage Archive. Its frontage was built in 1700 in Georgian style but much medieval material remains behind it.HistoryIn 1700 George Booth rebuilt two medieval houses as his town house. He built a frontage in Georgian style, but behind this much of the medieval fabric was retained. The frontage was angled into the street so that the house could be seen better from Chester Cross; however as a result of this he was fined £10 for encroaching into the street. In the 1740s and 1750s the building was used as the assembly rooms for the town's social functions. Subsequently, it has been used as an auction gallery and, as of 2010, houses a firm of solicitors. Reopened in October 2016 as a gallery, tearoom, deli, chocolatier, gifts and accessories. The top two floors of the building will be renovated and used as micro office space for artists studios and offices for startups, micro businesses operating in the creative industries.

"Booth Mansion is a Grade 1* Listed property in the centre of Chester. With its own Tearooms, Prosecco Lounge, Art Gallery, Retail spaces and Artist studios and offices."

Discovered this wonderful place today! Marvelous listed building the tearoom being in the old ballroom. Beautiful room. Excellent food and the staff are attentive, friendly and professional. 5 stars aren't enough!
Gorgeous hidden gem. Amazing food, cakes, drinks. Even alcoholic hot chocolate. Lovely friendly staff. Such a great place for a quite time out with a lovely view with history. Lots of things to buy in there.
Expansive, impressive and character-ful tea room at reasonable prices. The place has impressive history. There was live music from a pianist when I was visiting for a special bonus. Well worth a visit.
Great Coffee. Food menu looks good. Great selection of cakes. Dining room amazing. Need to get a fire going as it was a bit chilly in there.
A forgotten gem in the centre of Chester. Lovely architecture and attentive service.
Absolutely stunning tea room. Great service with delicious food and drink selection. Cakes and scones to die for! Lovely calm atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Great to read about the history of the place while we were there too.
A beautiful building with a delightful ambience. We enjoyed a fabulous afternoon tea with fantastic food and cakes. Probably one of the best I have had. The staff were very welcoming, warm and professional. We will definitely return. I would highly recommend a visit to this hidden gem. My only tiny disappointment was having to pay extra for coffee as two of us don't drink tea.
On Saturday Booths Mansion put on a wonderful Afternoon Tea for my daughter Laura's Baby Shower. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, no request was too much for them. The setting is so lovely and peaceful. Thanks you Booth's and also to your wonderful staff for making this a special afternoon for my daughter. I would recommend this venue above any other for a unique afternoon tea experience.
My daughter & I spotted this beautiful tea rooms when walking down watergate st. We popped in for a cup of tea to check it out. Had a lovely cup of tea in China cups & tea pot. Lovely room & seating area. Fabulous young man looked after us. So well mannered & attentive. Have decided to go back & take my granddaughter for her birthday for afternoon tea in August.
Rather difficult to find on the high street but what a treat!! An oasis of calm and serenity. Beautiful Georgian tea room. Excellent service, friendly staff and a great afternoon tea at half the price of the Grosvenor hotel. Highly recommended.
