Blairquhan Castle

Story

Blairquhan is a Regency era castle near Maybole in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It was the historic home of the Hunter-Blair Baronets and remained in the family's possession until 2012, when it was sold to a Chinese company.Blairquhan is protected as a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.HistoryFour different families have lived at Blairquhan or on its lands. The McWhirters built the first tower house about 1346. The Kennedys then inherited the estate through marriage and built the remainder of the old castle about 1573. In the early 17th century the Whitefords took over, but in 1798, suffering the effects of a bank crash, they sold Blairquhan to Sir David Hunter Blair, 3rd Baronet, the second son of Sir James Hunter Blair, 1st Baronet who had married Jean Blair, the daughter and heiress of John Blair of Dunskey in Wigtownshire in 1770. When Jean Blair inherited her father’s estate in 1777, the family took the additional surname of Blair. In 1820, Sir David commissioned Scottish architect William Burn to design a new house on Blairquhan. The old castle, which had become ruinous due to previous fires and neglect, was torn down for a new the Tudor-style castle, which nevertheless incorporated some of the decorative mouldings and sculpted stones from the old castle into the kitchen courtyard of the new house. The new mansion was completed in 1824, and contains many antiques and an important collection of paintings by Scottish artists. In late 2012, Sir Patrick David Hunter-Blair, 9th Baronet, sold Blairquhan to Ganten Scotland, a subsidiary of a Chinese company which bottles mineral water for distribution around the world.

We received a call from Nan (Blairquhan Castle) yesterday at 1.30pm who asked for someone to look at her fridge the same day, I explained that all the engineers were on calls and that I would get someone to her as soon as possible, she went on to say how she had an event the next day and I asked her to leave it with me, less than an hour later she called back asking for an update, I explained that none of the engineers were free yet but they would be with her ASAP, she then told me that she was closing at 5pm (first this was mentioned) I asked her to leave it with me and that one of our engineers would be with her ASAP and said that someone may have to wait on a bit to allow us access, at this she became very irate and started raising her voice and was demanding that I give her a time of when an engineer would visit, I explained again that none of my engineers had freed up yet and as soon as one was he would be heading there, this was still not good enough the only answer that would have been good enough for this woman was that an engineer will be with you in 10 minutes, she went on and on about I had not called her back and I apologised saying I had not understood that she wanted a call back and that at that point I had really nothing to update her with, but that an engineer would be with her that afternoon (early evening), she continually raised her voice about how our customer services was appalling and that she wanted to speak to a manager, I explained that I was the manager and she totally lost it ranting and raving and again how our customer services was poor and how I should have called her back, there really was absolutely no reasoning with the woman, so I finally said that if it wasn't good enough for her she could attempt to get another company. This woman would listen to no reasoning at all the only thing that would have kept her happy was my engineer dropping everything and running straight there, now what kind of customer service would that be to the customer we were attending! At no point did I say that "if you want you fridge fixed today you will have to wait about for him to come" or that "if you want your fridge fixed find someone else to fix it". After much ranting and raving by Nan I finally told her I would not be sending an engineer for him to receive the same abuse that I had received. I did call and speak to Karen and explained the situation and about how irate and obnoxious Nan had been and that I had finally said that we would not be attending due to all of aforementioned, I was told that Nan was probably worried that she would lose her products, I explained this does not excuse her manner. After finding out that Nan had left this totally exaggerated review about us I phoned and spoke to Ann who then passed me on to Nan, I asked her to explain the review and what she meant by me being cold and how i was uninterested to which she replied by again raising her voice that I could not give her a time, I mean seriously that makes me cold and uninterested, all of this conversation was witnessed by a member of staff who agreed that the woman was totally irrational and that I was wasting my time trying resolve the situation, we were given a 3.5 hour window to work with and I had told her that an engineer would attend that afternoon or maybe a bit after 5, I do not see this as unreasonable. In conclusion the woman is totally irrational and has totally twisted how things actually happened, you really need to be a yes sir no sir person to please this woman. I will be posting a copy of this review on Blairquhan Castle reviews. If you are thinking of using this venue look somewhere else, as if you need to deal with her directly I wish you good luck. for Ayrshire Refrigeration
