Came here for Mother’s Day and the pub is in a quaint village setting with a large garden area though no play equipment for kids and the tables had loads of bird poo on and nice surroundings we walked to the river and back around after our meal. The table was setup nicely, with lovely little touches like chocolates in pouches and they even bought some flowers out for the ladies in the group. The reason for 3 stars is that the service was very slow, with inexperienced young waitresses, especially as we had preordered all the meals, so it should have been easy for them to prepare the 3 courses and bring them out promptly. However, we had to ask for some of the dishes that never showed up, drinks that never came out, long waits between courses, getting the bill, etc it was Mothers Day, but the place didn’t really seem rammed. Also the food was also quite hit and miss, for example the pork was disappointing, with very bland vegetables, but other dishes seemed a bit better. It was £25 per person £19 for smaller portions, so not exactly cheap, therefore the food didn’t really represent great value in my opinion. I would probably give it another try sometime, but wouldn’t rush back in a hurry.
Nice Pub. Great selection of drinks, both spirits and ales. Amazingly good food suspect soon you may need to book. A great evening was had by all. Will definitely visit again.
Had a roast and fish and chips. Both very filling and delicious. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Beautiful setting. Very nice beer garden. Will definitely revisit.
I didn't want to stop here as we were the only customers and the place didn't seem inviting. The garden wasn't cared for and a bit overgrown. We decided to give it a go and had lunch. It was awful, cheap white bread with tasteless cheese and pickle. The salad leaves were tired and brown. The only thing that saved it was the chips, which were quite nice. Wouldn't go back.
I have been here on many occasions, the food has always been really really delicious especially the chunky chips, the staff are friendly & helpful,a lovely village pub & off the main road so nice & quiet
A really welcoming pub. Dog friendly. Very good and well priced menu. Meal was excellent in quality and quantity.
Traveled from Kent to Salisbury and popped in the Horse Inn after our skydive, the owner was lovely and we met two other local customers who we sat with and all made us feel very welcome.
Very friendly and welcoming staff and plenty of seating and good facilities. Good range of food, however Hunters chicken and Eton Mess didn't live up to expectations although the rib of beef special was good. There was a lack of draft real ale or craft beers, which would encourage more customers if available. The pub is in a lovely location and should attract more customers, however the recent change of landlord and covid may be limiting its success. Worth a visit.
Staying at the Premier Inn and didn't want to eat there.....so, we came to the Black Horse and so glad that we did. The staff are incredibly inviting and friendly, the pub is traditional and has a lovely garden. Lastly, the food is really tasty and made to order. If you're in the area it's a great choice. Thanks to all!
Lovely traditional pub hosted by a very welcoming lady who looked after me and the spaniel serving gluten free beer. I will certainly return to try the food
