Just popped in, not disappointed. Real Home made steak and ale pie. One of the best pies I have had, meat was so tender, suet crust pastry too. Large portions. Right on the Avon and Kennet canal.
We saw this place a few weeks ago but didn't have time to visit then. So yesterday we parked at The Locks walked up the canal to the pub and has a wonderful meal there. The pub was beautifully decorated and spotless. There are lovley views of the Kennet and Avon canal with a very nice outside beer gardenon the edge of the canal. They do have a good sized car park of their own and it can also be walked to easily from The Locks car park and the Wharf. The staff were brilliant, friendly and efficient. Toilets were clean. Dogs are welcome. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Generous portions and extremely good value for money. I asked for the halloumi burger but didn't want the chips and there was no hesitation in giving me a salad with it. The onion rings were perfect. It was really great. My husband really enjoyed his Tai curry again excellent portion and delicious . I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and we already hope to go back and walk the Locks again and go in and have another meal. Superb thank you.
Great setting alongside Caen Hills Loch. Spic and span inside and out. Friendly, welcoming and able staff. Something to suit most on menu and well presented fare and generous helpings. Really nice background music. Staff attentive. On the day's experience a 5 star rating. Great day out and Black Horse will go on my list of favourites for a return in due course. Labrador enjoyed it too!
Very nicely located pub near the canal. The food was very good but it took a while to get there but maybe because it was quite busy we.
Friendly staff, great food, & fab portion sizes for hungry walkers! Really nice seat canalside, would absolutely visit again!
On the Casque-Mark Ale Trail. Limited offerings, but what was there was in excellent condition. Very large outdoor area with a view, although not taken advantage of this visit, when the weather is nice, I'll bet it is very popular.
Popular canal side pub. The staff were friendly and food was okay.
I'm a boater who's done the whole length of the Kennett and Avon and these guys do the best pie on this canal!* Edited, went back in the evening for the pizza having loved the pie and distinctly average, you could tell everything from the sauce to the dry flavourless chicken was bought in! Such a shame as I genuinely loved the pie for lunch, but I've gotta call it how I see it! Lovely barstaff, very friendly just need to work on the pizza.
Decided to take a drive to devizes for a Sunday canal walk and came back here for some late lunch. Absolutely lovely food at a pleasant step up from classic pub grub. great staff with excellent service Despite a busy weekend I'm sure! Absolutely lovely time. Shame I didn't catch the names of anyone working besides Ellie I believe, who was great to chat to and left me and my partner feeling well catered for but certainly not smothered with attention which is perfect.
Excellent food, Best burger for miles !! Really great service and a warm welcome I would highly recommend a visit.
