Visited the Black Bull after work one evening, staff were so pleasant and very welcoming. We decided to share the starter of Japanese chicken which was delicious . However, when the main meals arrives of steak and ale pie and a burger we weren't impressed. Chips were dry and looked old / frozen . Unfortunately, I don't think I would be back.
Always loved this pub. Menu great and staff are friendly and helpful. Only had coffee on it's extensive terrace. High up with a fantastic view
Booked in for a table at 1830 & when I arrived it was quite busy. Ordered drink which was a local blonde beer which I can't remember, nice. Food menu had loads to offer but I went for special board of pork. Wonderful food and not a scrap wasted. Had another beer and left satisfied. The place was recommended by hotel I was staying at and I have to say the reason why The Black Bull was so busy is because they give what's required. Nice pub, great staff, wonderful service and best of all a great choice in food. Well done
Recommendable. Have been there after a hike. Perfect beer and food. New for me as a first-time-guest: You make your orders and pay at the bar.
This was the best Chef & Brewer I have been to. Nice pint of IPA and very good piping hot fish & chips
The food was really nice. Very tasty and well presented. Couldn't fault the food. A lot of the staff seemed to ignore us when needing there assistance and it was quite frustrating trying to get there attention. Toilets were clean enough but with a busy alley way behind and only a pane of frosted glass you may feel a bit exposed. They could also do with a lick of paint.
Visited today for Sunday lunch as we do every month as is normally a 4 or 5 star food experience. But today was a total disaster. The kids food was adequate yet one order was wrong and instead of a chicken burger he got 6 chicken stripes. The said it would take seconds to rectify which it did. They promptly took 4 stripes and put the remaining 2 in a tiny bun . Then the mains. We ordered trio of meat for 2.we knew as soon as we saw the plates there was going to be a problem. All the food or lack of it was on one side of the plate with the other half totally empty? Vegetables contain some frozen peas and 2 very small pieces of carrot which had been boiled to an inch of its life. 3 very, I mean very small roast potatoes and the meat contain 3 very small slices of meat with a rock hard piece of stuffing and no cracking. This only covered a quarter of the plate and was only made to look slightly bigger by the addition of a huge Yorkshire pudding. I know reviews get the same old reply of thank you for your honest feedback and we will try harder next time and look forward to seeing you again. I find this at times quite insulting at time when a family spends over £100 at a time when money is tight. The food should have at least passed the food manager who should have at least red flagged what was leaving the kitchen. It wasn't that the food was at the end of service but was only an hour into it. I'm sorry but I won't risk another negative experience costing over £100.
Been coming here for years absolutely love it unfortunately I was in on Sunday with my daughter we both had a turkey dinner and we’re both disappointed where was the veg? I don’t class frozen peas and I large raw carrot veg!!! Roast potatoes undercooked on the plus side my large glass of Rose was lovely and staff pleasant
Excellent choices on the menu. All 4 of us enjoyed every bit of our meals. Great service and lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
WORST MEAL EVER A group of six attended for Sunday evening meal. We were told there was no beef left. We ordered Pork dinner x 2, Fore rib of beef x 3 One gluten free and a trio of meats x 1 My Fore rib of beef was actually served frozen, can you believe that......It was still frozen with white fat sticking to it. I sent this back, but wow who was checking the food when it came out of chef Mike Microwave or did it even go in the microwave, Freezer to plate I think. Absolutely inexcusable sending out frozen food. The replacement rib was very poor with lots of fat and not a great deal of meat. The vegetables looked like they had been thrown on from the other side of the kitchen and the roast potatoes and parsnips were anemic and looked like they had never seen day light. The pork and Trio dishes were meant to have crackling, but they had ran out. The GF meal didn't have any gravy and the roast potatoes were boiled. I cannot state how bad this meal was. We ate what we had, paid and left. We had complained enough and put this down as a very poor experience. The two staff members were nice although one was new and really needed more training, they apologised but I'm sorry I will never set foot in the Black Bull again, nor any other Chef and Brewer pub
