About

Birmingham Conservatoire Guitar Dept - highest level in tuition, performance opportunities, masterclasses, chamber coaching, ensemble, art of teaching

Story

Guitar tuition is designed to equip you with all the skills required to enter the music profession. You’ll cover a broad spectrum of repertoire, receiving specialised individual tuition in your chosen area of study, complemented by masterclasses with visiting artists. Additional technique and sight-reading classes will contribute to your training in both modern techniques and Early Music styles, as appropriate.

Regular performance opportunities include weekly performance workshops, lunchtime recitals, chamber music concerts and external events. There is a strong emphasis on ensemble playing, through mixed ensembles, guitar ensembles and our guitar orchestra. If you have a particular interest in chamber music or you are part of a guitar ensemble, there is a new pathway offering specialist training in these areas, available at postgraduate level. Creative collaboration is encouraged, both between classical, jazz and rock guitarists, and with students from other departments throughout the college.

Last week, I took my family to see Hansel & Gretel, and wow, what an uptight and stuffy crowd! It was neither child-friendly nor cough-friendly! We had the pleasure of sitting behind an exceptionally rude and peculiar man who kept turning around to glare at my kids for coughing. Honestly, the audience had all the fun and energy of a tax audit—just a bunch of people who clearly take the opera way too seriously. I half-expected them to shush the orchestra! People like that should really consider enjoying their operas at home.
It was very good. Had a lovely evening
Superb free lunchtime recital, most Mondays in term time, In the Recital Hall. Excellent performance from Conservatoire Students. Well worth booking.Superb talent on show.
Fabulous venue, the acoustics in the hall are amazing. I look forward to coming back. It’s a very modern and minimalist space, with a large cafe, friendly staff and plenty of space for a large group. I attended for a charity event, and could not fault the place. The toilets are clean, and you have a easy access from the road.
Lovely venue. However, we were told that the concert would finish at 10. It didn't. We have waited to see this band for 2 years but they didn't come on stage until 9.30. We had to leave at 10 to get the last train home so missed the best tunes. Bitterly disappointed.
A lovely place to visit with helpful polite staff. Exhuberant cafe/bar. Spolessly clean. I recommend. Tres Bonne
Decent facilities, with nice seating.

A fantastic jazz bar in the bcu. If you get a chance, get along to an event at the East side jazz club.
Fantastic venue, sound is unreal
