An excellent day out for 3 generations in our family.The guide was great fun and had an incredible wealth of knowledge having been a miner himself. Other than the long queue for the underground tour (it was a very busy day) we were able to explore the expansive site freely and really enjoy the experience. The cafe was good value. Highly recommended for families on a budget

Bit of a trek but well worth a visit. Can queue up a bit but once inside an excellent experience. Staff extremely knowledgeable & chatty. Tour is excellent but not suited for some people - dark at times, cramped, claustrophobic, lifts etc as expected in a mine tour. Great gift shop & walk around well presented information boards & recreated areas. Excellent experience. Highly recommended.

Great few hours and entertaining for a 3 year old. We went down into the mine with headlamps on and saw lots of old buildings and it’s all free (£3 to park the car). Leek and potato soup in the cafe was epic. Really great place to visit

Big Pit National Coal Museum is a fantastic journey into the history of Welsh coal mining. There are tours 90 meters underground, which are led by ex-colliers who provide a wonderful insight into what it was like to work in the pits. The King Coal presentation includes an audio and visual narrated tour providing further information about the mining process over the years. The old baths and canteen serve as a mining museum and cafe service tea, coffee and eats. Considering that you only need to pay for your parking, this is a must see!

Big Pit is a fab few hours out for the kids. Pay only £3 for parking and the rest is free. Underground tours take place very regular so your not kept waiting too long even at busy times. Staff and underground tour guides are brilliant. So informative. The lids love it here and still enjoy each visit even though we've been about 15 times.
