Absolutely shocking. The latest in a catalogue of errors... While on a visit they were making tea and giving biscuits to the residents and to the relatives. It was noticed that the biscuit tin smelt of faeces and it was pointed out to the staff. They dismissed our concern and continued handing out biscuits. We have now been informed that an important meeting concerning the welfare of a relative has been cancelled due to the ward being in lockdown due to an outbreak of the Norovirus. Being primarily an assessment unit for Dementia sufferers there is no activities throughout the day to keep residents minds active. Patients are just left to roam the corridors aimlessly with no interaction from staff to engage patients minds. On one visit it was noticed that there were marks on our relatives wrists. When confronting the staff they just dismissed it as nothing to worry about. A few days later we found out from seeing partial notes that another patient had attempted to pull our relative out of a chair causing the marks to her wrists. We would not have been told this and it was only by chance that we found out. We have asked to see our relatives notes under the freedom of information act and that my wife is an acting power of attorney for our relative. The request was made in writing but we have yet to see the notes 4 weeks later. After starting a complaints procedure we have now been told that the staff at Beechwood did not follow the correct procedure for the request to see our relatives notes. There have been many more incidents over the past 3 to 4 months and this unit needs to be under investigation. Shame on you Beechwood.
