Basics - coffee, tea etc not bad. Unusually unfriendly and cold reception from seemingly everyone in the team here though which I find rather odd... Thought this was an indie, but perhaps part of a chain - not sure how they survive if not?! Front windows always to heavy in condensation you can't actually seen in from outside. Better places in town, within a few moments walk.

We ordered breakfast of toast and butter and preserves. When the food arrived there was no preserve and when we asked for it they didn’t have any. We were offered cranberry sauce instead which we deem unsuitable. We should have been told before we paid for it. We also had the gourmet breakfast but the pot containing the baked beans was chipped. Any cafe serving food with chipped crockery lacks customer care, we are not happy with this overall experience.

I noticed that the salad veggie options had a higher mark-up (£2 as opposed to £1) for eat-in than the fish and meat options. I asked our waitress why this was and (after reluctantly going to ask someone who knew the answer) she said that it was VAT on the extra washing up. I understand that this may be the purpose of charging VAT on all eat-in food, but challenge that my veggie plate is more dirty than a meat or fish!! When the salad arrived it was as disappointing as our waitress' attitude - chewy, anaemic halloumi (that is balsamic reduction, not chargrill marks you can see) on limp iceberg lettuce, and poor value for money. Avoid.
