Story

Situated in the heart of Soho on Broadwick Street, Basement Sate is London's first late night drinking and dessert destination. Whether finishing an evening after dinner, or specifically visiting for cocktails and something sweet, Basement Sate will satisfy your cravings.

The 120 capacity basement bar’s interiors are polished and tasteful. The design has combined raw brickwork with rich furnishings, lending a sleek yet intimate feel to the venue. With dark wood panelled snugs, low lighting, copper topped tables, green leather seating and furniture designed by Fleming and Howland, the overall atmosphere is reminiscent of a lovingly-designed living room.

Basement Sate will serve an impeccable selection of desserts from its open kitchen, priced from £8-£13 and available until 12am. The menu has been created by Dorian Picard, a Pastry Chef previously at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and the Club Gascon with Pascal Aussignac. Inspired by the cocktail menu, Dorian has matched the desserts to the tasting notes of the cocktails, bringing out subtle undertones and complementary flavours.

Designed by Byly Tran (L’Entree Des Artistes & Prescription Cocktail Club), the 12 strong cocktail list at Basement Sate is made up of inventive house creations, twists on classics and a range of carefully selected quality spirits. Sophisticated without being overcomplicated, many of the signature cocktails, like the Brandy Crusta let the boutique premium spirits do the talking.

With a Martin Audio sound system (Ministry Of Sound & Fabric), and residencies from London and Paris’s hottest DJs, Basement Sate’s music policy is a main focus, a genuine haven for true music lovers who are looking for diverse sounds away from the mainstream.

I’ve been here twice and can confirm that Provence is absolutely my favourite cocktail. So light, refreshing and floral but not in an overpowering way. On my second visit I tried some desserts. One for aesthetic value, the ‘much room’, which looked cool but the flavour was nothing special. Inside was chocolate mousse and then chocolate cake in the stem but there was a lot of chocolate shell and I couldn’t finish it unfortunately. In future I’d suggest getting this to share between two. My boyfriend went for taste over looks with the chocolate brownie and that was delicious. Overall, I’d recommend coming here for the atmosphere and ambience, more than the desserts. It’s full of people on dates, so great for people watching!
Great speakeasy style bar with good vibes. Went early and it was not too busy. Nice selection of drinks, especially like the “I’m feeling lucky” option where you don’t know what you will get!
A dimly lit and cool speakeasy in Soho. Not only do they make fantastic drinks, but their constantly changing dessert menu is a must try. Always find a creative and artistic dessert that really hits the mark.Food: 5/5
One of my favourite cocktail bar in Soho! Cocktails are fantastic, great creations but also the bartenders can do all the classic cocktails. The staff is friendly and professional with extremely knowledgeable bartenders. A plus for the whisky selection and possibility to have hand made desserts. A hidden gem!Food: 5/5
Underground bar that you'd probably miss since there's not a huge sign. There's a tiny gold plaque outside a door that leads to a stairway downwards. It feels like you're going into someone else's home, but you're just heading to the bar. We discovered this after dinner. We were looking for a drink and a dessert - and we got exactly that! It was really quiet on a Sunday night, so service was quick and they were friendly! I loved the Fluff. We also got a small chocolate dessert, which was a good size if you only want a nibble.
Lovely atmosphere, cozy seatings, and very friendly staffs. Easy to talk on most nights, great for a date, besties catch-up or even group parties. Cocktails from classics to their specialties, all pretty much up to standards! Been going to this place for quite some time/years and always loved their beautifully presented desserts. Just hoping the dessert chefs ‍‍ will be back soon!
Basement Sate is a hidden gem, nestled underground, offering a cozy and intimate atmosphere for indulging in delightful desserts and handcrafted cocktails. Their dessert menu is a work of art, featuring creatively presented treats with flavors that dance on the palate. The expertly crafted cocktails perfectly complement the desserts, creating a memorable and personalized experience guided by the knowledgeable staff. With its unique underground charm, Basement Sate provides an escape from the city's hustle and bustle. From the beautifully crafted desserts to the expertly mixed cocktails, this hidden gem offers an enchanting and intimate setting for a memorable dessert experience. Let the cozy ambiance and attentive staff guide you through a world of delectable treats and flavorful drinks.
One of our favorite places to go. Friendly staff, excellent drinks and comfortable ambiente. We will definitely come back.Service: 5/5
Lovely little speak easy with comfy leather seating and a dimly lit atmosphere. The dessert/cocktail pairing is a great idea. We absolutely loved both our desserts and cocktails! I've knocked off a star for service as originally the waitress seemed a little abrupt. She warmed up towards the end of the evening though, so she may have just been busy/stressed! The atmosphere is cute - great for dates. I knocked a star off purely because the reviews said it was lively, which I wouldn't really classify it as. But it's relaxed and I really enjoyed it!
The cocktails were really good, my favourite being the After State which I think is a play on After Eight chocolates as was a mint chocolate drink. The staff friendly and prompt and the price very reasonable. It was a little loud but overall had a great time.
