I do not normally leave bad reviews, and in particular to a charity that helps raise money for a great cause, but this time I felt the urge to warn other customers of what they will likely also experience if they go shopping here. One big star is for the nice items we bought, but unfortunately the other four had to be taken off for the damaging attitude of the staff. My wife and I thought we'd check out their shop for the first time and after about half an hour we found several pieces of clothing that we really liked and bought everything about two bags full. There is no fitting room available, so, we were told that if something didn't fit, we could bring it back and be refunded within 28 days, except for some £1 sale items which are non-returnable. Fair enough, nothing wrong. Out of the about 10 items we got, one unfortunately did not fit. So, a couple of days later we went back to return it and this is what ruined our day. The lady at the till looked at it and saw a barely noticeable, almost washed out "blue pen mark" about an inch long and followed by accusing us that we damaged it and they would not refund it. I pointed out that we bought it like that, only 2 days ago and it was no problem for us then, as these are all second-hand donated clothes and we accepted that naturally they likely will have small defects. And besides, the mark was clearly old and had been previously washed, impossible to be washed by us with their tag still on. Two other ladies came out from the back room, the ones who sold us the items accusing us of intentionally damaging their items and stating that "they don't use blue pens in the shop" and they wouldn't refund it. Furthermore, they stated that "they would not sell any damaged clothes or clothes with any kind of stains". At this point, it was clear that the conversation was going way off-track and didn't make any sense. I mean, blemishes are something to be expected in this kind of shop and I would go as far as to say that no person would buy something from a charity shop supposed to help a genuine cause just to bring it back damaged and have a negative impact on the people who this charity is raising money for. However, out of curiosity, I did have a quick browse through the shop to confirm their statement and within a minute I found several other items that were severely stained or damaged and brought it to their attention. After acknowledging that they do sell damaged items they stated that they will refund me as a "gesture of good will and only this one time". With sadness I have to say that this will surely be our last visit unless their attitude changes or staff is replaced and would also like to warn eveyone buying from here to please check what you are buying and make sure to take a picture of any blemish before purchasing any item as you will likely not be refunded and end up having an absolutely pointless argument.
Full marks for the recent excellent DVD selection that boosted the listening pleasure in my car. I realise that it always depends on what is donated but 5 stars just the same.
