I booked on behave of my husband. He said the pick up was smooth, they explained things to him, no hidden charges, full tank of fuel, the car we had booked wasn't available but they actually gave him a bigger car with no extra cost so that was fine. At drop off it was a Sunday after hours so he didn't see anybody but was told to just lock the car an put the key in save box. Everything went smooth no problems thankfully, people were nice to deal with an my husband will definitely hire with them again as he travels to the UK a few times in the year. We got an email the next morning thinking us for the car drop off. So we'll just wait for the deposit to be put back on the card an then happy days thank you Avis
I advise DO NOT rent through Avis! Had a terrible experience on my first attempt to rent through this company. I had arranged a fast pick up, with a gentleman on the phone the day before which all went well till I arrived at the branch. I was confronted with a very rude gentleman, who without checking all the correct documents that I brought as requested Instead started doing various 'credit ' checks on my name relating to electoral registers from what I believe. I did not consent to these being done and have never come across any checks like this having rented cars for many years through work. As a result he told me because of my 'status' I couldn't take the car I had paid for. He refused to give me a refund and told me to leave. Extremely Rude yet so kind to the customers before me. As a healthcare professional I was left without a car, no refund and no apology. As mentioned I've never experienced anything like the embarrassment I felt here when renting from other places. I do believe the gentleman on the desk potentially had some kind of agenda which I'll be following up legally accompanied with the lack of consent for checks, inconvenience caused and disregard for consumer laws.
I recently rented a car from Avis in the UK. Everything was fine until I turned the car in. I arrived at the airport before Avis was open so I dropped the keys in the drop box. Later that day I received an e-mail that I was being charged for damage to the vehicle. I've rented many cars in Europe, the UK and the U.S. and have never been charged for damage. The pictures showed very minor scratches to one of the rims, which I believe should be considered normal wear and tear. However Avis decided to charged me anyway. In the damage report Avis says the scratches were 26mm - 50mm or 2.5cm - 5.0cm. I contacted Avis about this, but they said it was their right to charge me for this as it was in the rental agreement. Not only are they charging me to repair the rim, but for the downtime and other processing fees as well. I'm pretty sure they're not going to repair these very minor scuffs to the rim, but are simply charging me because they can. I will not be using Avis or any of their subsidiaries in the future.
Did not check wheel for scratches and then got charged for wheel scratches I know I didn't do on return. Looked like normal wear and tear to me. Never had an issue with any other car hire company, don't normally use Avis and don't think I will use them again. Quick service, good team but unfortunately let down by inaccurate records and reporting or definition of wear and tear. UPDATE: after a review they refunded the money, more than fair - I have adjusted the rating to reflect this.
The Avis Car Hire Office at the Leeds Bradford Airport was very efficient from picking the vehicle up using the self serve facility to dropping off where the counter attendant met me immediately. The car itself was very clean and we never had any issues at all during our 15 day hire.We have used Avis before and will use again if we need to.We would definitely recommend to friends if they need a car hire service.
First and last time! The bad. We recently hired a car from the LBA branch. The car was dirty externally, there were numerous scratches around the vehicle, the wiper blades needed replacement all round and we subsequently encountered a problem with the keyless entry system, after returning to the vehicle on a Friday afternoon, on a trip out only to discover the spare key blade was missing from the key fob so unable to open the doors. We contacted the Avis call centre who emailed the LBA office there is no direct way to contact the branch and even the call centre is unable to speak directly to the office in Leeds!. Unfortunately, the Leeds branch didn't respond to the two messages from the call centre to contact me to establish if they had the door key blade or to arrange a replacement vehicle. The call centre closes at 5 pm and there is no weekend cover! This necessitated call out of the AA and then local recovery service to resolve the breakdown. In between time I managed to reach the branch via another rental company, based next door, and ensure that a staff member would be available to exchange the vehicle once recovered. The guy from the recovery company managed by some remarkable effort and dexterity to recover the key code to the key fob and gain access to the car, enabling me to get mobile again. The good. When I returned the car that evening to exchange it, Jamie at the branch, who had remained on duty pending my arrival, was extremely apologetic and had an upgrade vehicle ready to exchange. He provided the vehicle on an empty basis albeit it was full so that I could return it without any need to refuel it. He did what he could to compensate the hassle and inconvenience experienced. This mirrors the general customer focused demeanour at this branch and courteous approach to dealing with customers, which I found to be very good. However, the corporate back office support processes for customers, once a car has been hired, are particularly lacking. There is no 24/7 system in place to manage out of hours issues between standard office hours and weekends. It was only by the application of a bit of initiative that I was able to speak with a staff member once it got past 5 pm. Equally disappointing for such a large and high profile company, was that the first car wasn't really fit for hire. A mixed experience hiring from Avis Budget but overall, given the unacceptable post-hire support and getting a substandard car, I personally will not be using the company again nor can I recommend it.
Onsite staff at both locations were excellent , helpful, knowledgeable, pleasant and definitely went above and beyond. Customer services were terrible, long holds and promises broken. Still waiting to a response to the promise of voucher that I will no longer be able to use Shame , your ground staff are seriously some of the most best front facing staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with
Hello, I rented a car with Budget back in December. Jack was wonderful and helpful, and I enjoyed my great car. When I returned it, Jaime was also wonderful. This was around the 10th of December. On the 26th of January, I was charged 60 GBP. 100 CAD! I was able to track down the charge, and it was for parking at a YHA where I was legally registered. Either YHA or the parking company made a mistake. Budget did nothing to contact me concerning this charge that was increased because it wasn't paid during a specific time period. I contacted them and they did nothing. To apologize would admit fault I suppose. My credit card company can't fight it and it can't be reversed with PayWithEase ironic because it was paid. So the bottom line is that Budget was negligent in their duty of informing me. For that reason, they deserve a minus star or two, but the guys on the front line were wonderful. Back office... not even close. Sorry guys! Ok, Hi again. Thank you for your reply. The problem is that as I mentioned, Park with Ease won't reverse the charges because it was already paid. YHA proved that I was registered. So ok, then, the whole system is faulty and the innocent pays! Bummer. But thanks for your reply. There's nothing that can be done. I upped the stars though as you took the time to explain, thanks.
This was a great experience. The staff members went out of their way to resolve an issue I had. Notable mention to Olivia who showed a lot of empathy and went out of her way to fix the matter expediently. Highly recommended.
Understand the deposit process and it isn’t a shock - the staff were friendly - the process of quick pass was easy and useable. The guy who checked the car when I returned it was just lovely. Such an easy experience with no issues and the car was perfect ! Can not complain at all from beginning to end it was cost effective and exceeded my expectations in value and customer service.
