It’s sad to see this once great lounge quality has dropped so drastically. Aspire now have what was previously the British Airways lounge and the old Aspire lounge seems to be closed for now. The lounge was always previously run to BA standards. Since Aspire got complete control there have been a few changes: - The catering is much worse. Even under BA I didn’t expect to get a meal in the lounge but edible food was expected. What I really didn’t expect was a lack of basic / normal lounge drinks. See picture. No fizzy drinks other than tonic water and CC branded lemonade. No coke, sprite, Fanta etc. All low quality, from concentrate juices and Mi Wadi cordial. Some reasonable spirits are out, but for non drinkers / those who don’t drink straight spirits or g&t, you’re out of luck. The nice BA coffee machines were replaced with something I think must take powdered coffee. The sausage bap in the morning was over microwaved or something because it was a rock. - The furniture and space are still great but now significantly dirtier with staining. The carpets are really disgusting. Plenty of actual rubbish crisps, wrappers etc on the carpets multiple times I have been in. - The shelves which once had a selection of admittedly not great reading material under BA are now empty. - The website mentions the toasties which previous reviewers have complained about. But they weren’t there / no reference to them when I was here. Perhaps a good thing? - I had a 20:50 flight so asked when I came in when they closed. I was told 21:00. I told them that their Google information is out of date and shows 20:00. The response was ‘probably nobody has updated’ . I don’t expect it to be updated following that. - The worst part of it all has also been pointed out in other reviews. Despite there being rubbish on the floor, no ice, being low on drinks etc the 3 staff sat around near the food chatting really loudly with another airport worker. Beside them was a trolley use for the dirty dishes. It was near full despite there being a total of 8 people in the lounge who all still had their dirty glasses/cups. The positives about the lounge are only the furniture which remains from BA days, the automatic pancake machine which made it from the old aspire lounge and that the staff were very friendly, wishing those leaving a pleasant flight and checking they knew where they were going. In all though, this lounge is a really a bit of a disgrace and the staff seem unaware. 2/5, which I fully expect to be 1/5 in a few months. Update: one week on I visited the lounge again. Firstly when I came in I was advised there was no hot food as it stops at 7pm. This meant there was really no food other than biscuits and for a few minutes crisps. Then when I went to get some crisps at 20:35 the receptionist said they’d been cleared and they needed time to clean there were no real signs of cleaning and it’s a bit weird when lots of the condiments etc from breakfast are left out all day. She proceeded to rant about how we were only there because our flight was delayed. It was clear they were being put out. Somehow in explaining this I’ve managed to do so infinitely more politely than the lounge staff member was. Absurd. BA need to do something!
A good range of seating options, most with power and USB sockets. Nice view. Basic but adequate range of food hot eg soup or Chicken a la king and rice, and cold eg crisps, cakes, rolls, ham and cheese and drink including wine, beer and spirits. The reason it doesn't more stars from me is that during a quiet period there were 5 or 6 staff members sitting near the food area having their lunch break. Their proximity to the food service are made me uncomfortable, as if I was being monitored, and they were very loud, as if they were in a staff-only back room instead of a customer area. It was unprofessional and distracting.
Satisfactory choice of beers, wines and spirits. Food choices are very poor. Today we have chunks of unappetizing looking cake, luke warm tomato soup, scones or cheese and crackers. Nothing that would constitute a meal. August 2022. The Aspire lounge has now taken over the old British Airways lounge and is far better. The food is still very basic but it's more comfortable.
Staff are great, longe is very comfortable with plenty of space. The drink available is good but the food is terrible. Not even a tray of sandwiches. When you consider the choices at other airports, this is well below par. Crisps, cheese and biscuits, soup if you time it right and scones. That's about it.
Friendly staff, pleasant surroundings and quite busy. There was Chicken Vegetable soup and a 3 Bean Stew. Stew was quite nice! Scones, doughnuts, crisps, cheese, ham and some nice wheaten bread. There was a goo selection of drinks. The only downer and it's was a big one was that the coffee machine wasn't working All in all not bad..
Unfortunately we were so disappointed by this lounge. I booked it as a treat for myself and my husband for his birthday before our flight. When we arrived there were empty plates, glasses and rubbish everywhere. There were also broken glasses left sitting on tables which was dangerous. There was no beer or wine, the spirits were running very low and the mixers you had to pour out of 2ltr bottles and there were hardly any left. The sausage baps on offer were hard and almost cold and the other food selections very poor. Staff commented that they had run out of almost everything and they had sent someone out to tesco to buy provisions. They really shouldn't have been open or at least refunding anyone who had paid to use the lounge that day. Not sure if this is a regular occurrence or just a one off. We did enjoy the more relaxed atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the main airport, we were maybe just unlucky on the day.
Rude staff, coffee machine broken, cheap instant brand offered as an alternative, no hot food and very little cold food on offer. t This lounge deserves no stars. Do not waste your money by booking here. Disgusted.
Coffee machine broken, Toaster broken. Staff more interested in chatting to each other. No fresh food at all only cereals. Tables left with food and used dirty plates and cups for well over an hour. It’s not like the lounge was even busy. Think twice before paying for this lounge.
Great lounge! A lot of people have been commenting negatively lately, the comments are unfair from my experience today. The staff have been lovely, food has been great and the bottled drinks don’t offend me. The lounge got pretty busy mid afternoon but the staff where on top of everything.
The Aspire lounge at Belfast city airport, BHD, is a nice lounge with seats for around 50 people and divided into two sections whereas one is the quiet area. There are a few different seating options and it has plenty of power sockets. There is a good selection of food and drinks including premium spirits. For breakfast they have heated baps and yoghurt. They use the free airport WiFi which is easy to register for. A good value lounge on Priority Pass
