Not normally a fan of Asda, due to local stores rather than produce but this one is round the corner from our holiday cottage. What a pleasant surprise. Lovely modern, clean store which is very well stocked with everything you would expect/need.
Last two times I've been in there has been virtually no fresh salad. The number of checkouts are steadily reduced. I refuse to cost people their jobs by doing self scanning and eventually I will cease shopping there if it continues.
Extremely rude customer service staff. Old lady with glasses named Danielle should not be working with the public. I wanted a replacement on 'extra special' oranges as one of them had rotted. She told me I could have one orange as a replacement! Not a refund or a replacement pack. I said I wasn't happy with her attitude and she said likewise! Asda you need to chose your staff more carefully as staff like Danielle will lose you custom. There's plenty of other food stores to spend my money where I won't get abuse of rude staff.
9 times out of 10 in recent years we get badgered by staff that hover around the tills it seems with nothing better to do but to ask us to use the self service tills which are only catered for baskets which is no advantage at all if you got a fair sized amount of shopping especially if it contains alcohol and then your confronted with another queue, then you have to find someone to take the tag off the bottle of alcohol, it's no help to the customer at all. This is ridiculous when there are normally at least 8 unmanned normal tills, and scores of staff bothering customers to use the self service tils, they have to be there to assist with anyway. Surely they would be better off operating the normal tills. We are going backwards in time, and asda are not saving money on wages because the other staff could be manning normal tils. Don't forget these rules are probably made from higher up so we cant blame the shop floor staff. Hence why this review will probably go un-noticed. And those gadgets that price up your shopping as you go around is causing the shop thousands in theft each year. Not all items get scanned. Also why stop selling vinyl records at a time when they are outselling cds for the first time in 35 years?
Very poor customer service. I had visited to redeem an energy voucher at the pay point desk on behalf of a family member. I had taken a form of ID for them as I did on 2 previous occasions. I had no issues the previous 2 times however on this visit I was refused service by the cashier. She had told me that she recognised my family member by their ID and she stated that they come into the store regularly so they should be claiming the voucher themselves. I explained that they are unable to do this due to medical conditions which I did not feel was acceptable to disclose to the cashier . She again stated that she would not serve me. When I explained that I had been served before for the vouchers I was told that I must of been served by a trainee and that if she had been on the desk that she would of refused. I explained that I was able to come back with additional ID for my family member for example utility bills. The cashiers response to me was that hopefully the trainee will be serving again because if she is on the desk she would not serve me. I left feeling humiliated and upset. It is not acceptable that I should have to explain to a cashier why my disabled family member can not redeem the voucher themselves. I understand that there has to be certain procedures in place with these vouchers to prevent fraud however to say that even if I return with additional paperwork that she will not serve me is unacceptable. This cashier had made an assumption about by family members abilities based on the fact that she had seen them shopping in the store. Just because they can use a mobility aid to physically get to the shop, does not mean that they have the mental capability to be able to redeem the voucher. I hope that asda will review training provided for their staff particularly around disabilities. I will not be returning to the store after this incident.
If you get there at the right time there are some amazing bargains, on fresh produce! Well laid out and has good signage, easy to find what you're looking for Toilets are regularly monitored and cleaned ATMs are outside and plenty of disabled parking close to the store Lovely selection of fresh flowers, they no longer use the plastic fresh flower bags. When I enquired I was told to get a paper bag from the fruit and veg section They no longer use plastic bags for flowers, which is great. But it meant I had to hunt around the fresh produce section to find a paper bag On this occasion, the dedicated floral shop assistant wasn't interested and wasn't particularly helpful Generally, all the staff are helpful and pleasant
The store itself is brilliant and modern in design, with a nice cafe. The food tastes very nice and the store usually has items in stock, however there is a massive flaw which lets this store down. The Scan and Go. The handsets usually go up the wall and the staff couldn't care less about it. I've had this problem multiple times, and it infuriates me every time that the staff really couldn't be bothered to deal with it. You'd expect technical staff or at least a countermeasure in place to prevent the handsets breaking. Except from this massive problem, the store is nice and I always shop here, usually without the handsets.
Not going back to this branch ever again. Down here on holiday and staying locally so dropped in to get some supplies. Staff were downright rude and unhelpful. Scanned my shopping like she was competing in a fastest scan contest and sat there tutting at me while I packed my bags. Once I had loaded my bags and paid, her comment was " See, it wasn't very hard was it". If she had said that before I had paid I would have emptied the bags and walked out. Tried to discuss this with customer services who didn't seem to be very bothered and when the assistant went to make notes, couldn't find a pen that worked. I left in disgust at this point. Most of the checkouts are self scan, I don't usually use these as I prefer the human approach, but after todays visit, the quicker the unhelpful and rude staff are automated the better. In reply to Tasha, it was 18th October around 15.15 and I was at the checkout closest to the self scan trolly checkouts. The colleague was in that much of a rush she had started to checkout the person behind me before I had even paid.
Asda needs to keep an eye on the disabled parking. As a disabled person with a blue badge that can't get a disabled paring space due to all the cars with no blue badge park in them spots is terrible. It needs to be managed properly
It's Asda. If you don't know what they're about, where have you been. Availability around teatime always poor. The lobby/entrance looks unloved & untidy. Very long queues if you have a trolley. Only 2 checkouts open when last visited & the one cashier was doing her best to make cleaning an egg up last to almost the end of her shift. Once completed she served the broken egg customer & immediately shut leaving a massive queue at the only remaining open till. That's the problem with self serve or scan n go. They cannot clean up a spillage meaning customers wait even longer to be served by a real person. Convenience stores I can understand self serve. Stores that want customers to trolley shop need to provide enough colleagues to serve them.
