Really good Italian restaurant that offers a unique atmosphere overlooking at the Hull’s marina. The restaurant is in an old bricks building and the game of lights and colours makes your stay very enjoyable and warm. The food is really delicious, and keeps surprising you. Particularly good choices of ingredients like the excellent extra virgin olive oil which comes directly from Italy. I will go back and I would recommend it to friends and family!
I’ve been to Al Porto a few times previously and have never had a bad meal here. The menu is quite expensive, but the food is absolutely fantastic and obviously made with really fresh ingredients. The restaurant itself is really nice as well, it’s a red brick interior and feels very cosy and intimate, I imagine it would be perfect for a date night. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because it’s a bit of a pain to get to if you’re driving no problem at all if you’re walking though and because it’s in a building that’s multi use it’s a very strange entrance having to go up 2 flights of stairs in what looks like an office? I don’t think there’s any disabled access either by the looks of it. Great experience though, if I ever need to come back to Hull I would definitely come back.
A small Italian restaurant tucked away on the otherside of the marina. Its a bit of a pain for parking and it's up 2 flights of stairs on the 1st floor of a multi-use building with no lift. We visited on a Sunday at 4pm and were the only customers for the duration of our visit we stayed until 7. There were 3 members of staff serving however 2 seemed to be more interested in their phones and chatting. My glass was empty for at least 10 minutes and nobody came to see if I wanted another to the point I had to go to the bar to order more drinks. The food was vastly over priced and portion size small and certainly nothing special, although my pint could have come with a flake see the picture. Overall if you're going to pay this much for a meal go elsewhere.
Not the cheapest restaurant in town, but possibly the best quality of food and great value for money! Came here just because we were looking for somewhere in Hull that we'd not been to before and found it on Google maps. Booked the table without knowing a huge amount about the place but we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. It is situated on perhaps a first of second storey level, so the view from the windows over the marina are really good. The interior of the restaurant whilst still fairly rustic and in keeping with the industrial feel of the building, has been very tastefully decorated and laid out with a large bar area and extensive dining area with well spaced tables and the resulting acoustics are much better than some perhaps busier places we have been. Whilst there were plenty of people there that night, it wasn't deafening and there was a really nice atmosphere. The food we chose was gorgeous. My partner had a venison Wellington, off the specials board, I had a fillet steak dish off the main menu. Both were well presented, cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. We both had the starter, which was equally delicious and for the first time in a very long time, we both had a dessert. Not that we were still hungry, just that all the food was so tasty, we had to sample a small dessert each too nd weren't disappointed! Whilst I couldn't afford to eat here often, I would certainly like to come back again for a special occasion and I would totally recommend it to anyone wishing to find quality food served in a nice atmosphere by staff who have a smile on their face. If you want cheap, average food, go elsewhere, you won't find that here. If you want really tasty, original recipes cooked to perfection and served by staff that seem to care about their clients and don't mind paying a little extra for it, look no further. We will be back.
My colleague and I went to Al Porto Italian restaurant on Thursday and were blown away by our food! The restaurant has a really nice, chilled out vibe, but still holds a level of class. I had the duck liver to start followed by the best risotto I've ever tasted. My colleague had the garlic prawns to start and the spaghetti carbonara for his main. All of the food was lovely
Lovely romantic dining. Excellent Italian cuisine. Set in one of Hulls iconic converted dock front buildings it provides a great view of the river and marina. Good seafood options and a large wine and spirits selection.
We visited Al Porto last night for a meal with our son and daughter in law and have to say that certain aspects of the night were very disappointing. After being shown to our table we were waiting over 20 minutes just to get a glass of water and our first drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive. Once our order was finally taken and we were served both my meal and my sons was ok but unfortunately my wife’s was very disappointing. She ordered a meal that was supposed to be vegan and once it arrived had cheese in it even though she expressed that it had to have no dairy in it because it makes her so ill. She brought this there attention to which they apologised and made another dish that when it eventually arrived was undercooked and also ended up eating on her own because we had already finished our meal . Consequently the question would be would we go back and the answer would be definitely not nice venue but disappointing service
We went as a family for my dads birthday. We went on a monday evening and was surprised to find how busy the place was . This is usually a really good sign .we booked for 7.30pm and arrived promptly. We were shown to the table and were left alone for about a quarter of an hour before someone came to take the drinks order. The drinks arrived and we waited another 20 minutes before the order was taken . Like i said it was busy ,so fair enough . We then had to wait till 9pm before the food started to arrive . By that time we were hungry so I was a little disappointed with the size of the starter . I ordered the pork belly which was delicous but the size of a small satsuma . By that time i was really hungry we then had to wait another half an hour for the main to arrive i had ordered lobster ravioli and was really looking forward to it by then . When it arrived i was again disappointed with the portion which was 6 ravioli 3 cherry tomatoes and 2 prawns. Again the food was lovely but there really wasnt enough of it. Rather than leave hungry i had a cheesecake to finish . I wouldnt normally have a dessert but i was so hungry by this time. My dad and daughter shared a sirloin steak which was large and sold by weight. The price for that was £70. Which i thought was a bit excessive. My wife had the ravioli like me ,thankfully after a recent illness she wasnt too hungry . Good job really!!. Like i said the food was nice but the portions do need to be looked at. Diners going home hungry cannot be good for repeat business . I think the problem with the slow service tonight, lay in the kitchen, not front of house. Again something that they may need to look at. I suspect the slow service isnt normally like that ,but as for the portion sizes be warned.
Second time going for dinner and it was once a again fantastic. The restaurant is set out very well not every table on top off the other and the food and presentation was great.
Good vibe in the restaurant with a good mix of diners, we had the Antipasti for starters which as usual was good quality but unfortunately the person taking the orders was not familiar with the menu and the Ragu dish of short rib beef with pasta ended up as a plain tomato pasta dish, the lobster ravioli with prawns was flavoursome, however the tiramasu dessert was rather bland... all in all a nice evening but not as good as previous visits...... Kid-friendliness: Children catered for... Parking: On street parking after 6pm
