I booked into Amchara unsure what to expect. I arrived weary after a busy summer and exhausting work & travel schedule. I was stressed, overweight and feeling a little down. I had booked into the Mastersuite or Rolica, the rooms are named after Wellingtons Battles. I am glad I did, it was a lovely large room, traditionally furnished with amazing views over the garden and fields beyond. Every day, 3 times a day, we had freshly prepared juices- delicious and surprisingly nutritious- you learn quickly to savour. I felt hunger but as the week wore on it was manageable and I was never seriously tempted to order in a pizza!. In the evening we treated to a welcoming warm and tasty broth. As a guy who would normally enjoyed a steak dinner I was surprised I enjoyed so much. I slept plenty- 10-12 hours a night and the occasional snooze some afternoons as well. I clearly needed this and was grateful for the opportunity. The week I was there the weather was very good and I took the opportunity to take long, good paced walks. The local heath land is interesting with a superb, boarded walk through the woodlands. I also enjoyed the treatments, at least one everyday- thanks Suzie for the numerous firm, deep tissue massages with aromatherapy oils. I also took part in the educational talks, yoga, meditation, nightly movie and food preparation classes. I came and went and was as sociable as I felt with no expectation either way. The front of house team were excellent, caring, natural and sociable. Thank you to Laura, Leslie and Wendy. So after a weeks stay I left feeling much healthier, rested, happier, more energetic and. wait for it, 11 lbs lighter. I hope this spurs me on to continue and make some positive changes to my lifestyle and well being., Overall a week very well spent, and I would have been happy to stay another week.Ill book in again.

Before experiencing the delights of Amchara I'd never been on a retreat. I'd known for about a year that I wanted / needed to go on one (due to life being so busy and needing to have some me time) and I wasnt quite sure where to go. That was until I came across Amchara. I made a number of phone calls before making my decision. I was keen to find out exactly what would happen during the retreat and how it would all work. Each time I called or emailed, the office were very helpful and provided me with the information that I asked for. It was really important to me to choose the right place not only due to the financial investment that I would be making in myself and also because of the time I would be investing. So the place I chose had to not only fulfil my needs it also had to be of exceptional quality. Once I had made the decision to go to Amchara, my thoughts were that we would receive daily regular juices and there would also be yoga sessions and daily talks available and that as Amchara country house is in such beautiful settings, we would have the option to go on country walks. So lots of me time, which is just what I needed. I would have been extremely happy with this. Amchara was far more than this!!! The bedroom I had on the second floor was lovely and was in fact more like a little apartment. I chose to be at Amchara for five days. During those five days I didn't have to think about anything it was great being looked after! I had loads of much needed me time! During those five days Leslie, Laura, Susie and Wendy were the resident experts on hand to help us in any way we wished for. All were such lovely caring people and experts in their field. On arrival we had a consultantion with the resident qualified nutritionist, Laura. Not everyone had the same juices. Based upon the initial consultation Laura made sure that the Juices we were given were specific to our health needs. I was also able to have a free follow up consulation later on in the week with Laura and Laura advised me on the foods I should / shouldn't have and the possible nutrients I could take in order to optimize my health. This was really valuable. Wendy gave two yoga sessions a day. The evening one was a yoga meditation. I loved these and they were deeply relaxing. Wendy taught me how to do the yoga sun salutation routine which I am now also doing at home. Leslie was a rock during those five days and if I was struggling with sticking to the juices, Leslie was able to provide that emotional support. Susie gave me lovely massages during the five days and I was also glad that I had the reiki session with Susie. I hadn't expected this one to one support from Leslie, Laura, Susie or Wendy This is where Amachara far exceeded my expectations. Also, I'd known there would be daily talks, I'd not realized how informative they would be. Everything had so carefully been thought about. From the scheduled films in the evening to the on site sauna and scheduled walks in the countryside. By the end of the five days I had lost five pounds, was no longer craving sugar I felt relaxed and rested. All I can say is that not only did Amchara fulfill my needs, on all levels, it by far exceeded those and exceeded any expectations I had had. In the infamous words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, all I can say is "I'll be back"
