Story

Amalfi White - A two AA Rosette Restaurant
Amalfi White has the reputation as the region’s most stylish restaurant. This vibrant 2 AA Rosette restaurant and cocktail bar is housed in a beautiful renovated Victorian building in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

There’s a stunning 65 cover restaurant with three menus to suit any celebration. The pewter topped cocktail and prosecco bar has over 70 different gins and offers a more informal dining experience with a wood fired pizza oven. Licensed for weddings the magnificent Amalfi White Ballroom on the 1st floor is perfect for weddings and private parties with its glittering chandeliers and elegant private bar. A huge Italian style garden is at the rear of the property full of white flowers and stone tables with a playground perfect for family lunches or long summer nights.

Two AA rosettes were awarded in March of this year and Head Chef Matthew Clayton, who appeared on Masterchef 2016, leads a professional team committed to sourcing the best locally grown ingredients, pushing the boundaries of fine dining in the region. Amalfi White was also included in the 2016 Great British Cookbook. The staff are smart, young, energetic and pushing for more accolades. Amalfi White is a hidden gem.

The restaurant caters for all occasions. Enjoy the Urban Menu for a dressed down lunch or sample the elegant Chef’s Menu or even the 5 course taster with matching wine for something more special.

Popular for date nights, anniversaries, birthdays and celebrations Amalfi White has been pioneering ‘urban fine dining’ long before London establishments recently started throwing out the tablecloths and turning up the music.

Amalfi White prides itself on serving incredible food in a relaxed, vibrant environment. The wine list is as broad as the menu options and service is attentive yet discreet.

Where do I start? We planned the night as a birthday meal, a group of 7 with high hopes considering the hype surrounding the place. Food looks great and so does the venue, thought it would be a great night… quite the juxtaposition. Firstly, once drinks and food had been ordered we were waiting one hour for food, albeit we had ordered the chateaubriand takes more time, understandable once food had arrived it looked okay but nothing special, especially considering the price. The chateau platter itself is not served traditionally and only has half the filet itself five measly pieces, we had asked for medium-rare but it was rare, the steak tasted as good as a £5 Tesco value steak, and was cold upon serving. Now for the best part, the lobster… completely inedible, smelt of bleach or some form of plastic and was revolting. In exchange we had lobster… swapped for tempura shrimp…lobster, for shrimp. The peppercorn sauce was incredibly overpowering and the portion of chips was no larger than a medium from McDonald’s which realistically would have been better. The problem being is that the platter is £100. You would expect for that money that the chefs would be able to make a decent meal, I think that’s a fair assessment but it appears that this time they were out of their depth. Livid is the expression best suited to how we felt. The other meals were sub-par with the exception of the salmon… and if you have any cooking experience then that’s all that needs to be said. Another steak was rare when medium rare was requested. To top it off we had requested a birthday gesture to which after following up on twice, never happened. In conclusion this place on our visit had as much flavour and excitement as a trench diggers left flip-flop and that’s being courteous. I would hope this is a one-off as many restaurants in the surrounding area are of much higher esteem for less of the price. Apart from the waitress no manager came to apologise, as most managers cower behind the young staff in places like this anyway. In conclusion, would rather have a Tesco meal deal than eat at this establishment again. To the young staff, I apologise that you were caught in the cross fire of negligence from your colleagues, you guys handled the situation in a professional conduct which was appreciated. After all the trouble £50 was knocked off the bill, which was still far too little but at that time I was hungry and wanted to leave. Won’t be returning and wouldn’t be payed to do so. To the staff that oversee the operation, the bulls head in Repton and wine house in Lichfield + many more in the surrounding area are an absolute paramount above in quality for a lower price, I suggest you should take a note from their books. Photo attached of what £100 will get you. It’s one portion
Having stayed at a local Air bnb, the Boutique Cottage in Melbourne, the host suggested a few places to visit. This was highly recommended, and what a great experience we had. With a fine dining area and separate bar, Amalfi White balanced out the two really well whilst keeping a relaxed yet upbeat feel to the night. The cocktails were well presented and well made, and there was a selection of spirits and beers to choose from. I'll be back again, and thank you for a great night. The addition of the Christmas band was a nice touch for the Christmas period.
If you want a meal out to remember for a special occasion, or simply a lush Sunday lunch, Amalfi White is the perfect place. Having celebrated anniversaries here and a cheeky Sunday lunch, we couldn’t wish for a better venue. The food is exquisite and well priced for how beautiful it is. Staff are friendly but not in your face. Genuinely love Amalfi White. There is something quite special about it. We would recommend it
Popped in for lunch, the Christmas menu was fantastic and food was beautifully presented. There was only 2 other tables yet the service was incredible slow to the extend I had to wonder round the building to ask for the table to be cleared and to pay the bill. Only a small thing but took the edge off the experience.Food: 5/5
I was apprehensive about going here first as I had my son with me and he was quite hungry. I was glad we did as the service was first class and Sian was very welcoming and my sons food came out very quick which was good for us normally the kids food can take some time so we were happy it came out quick. His food was very good and a decent size for kids. Our food was also amazing and tasted very nice and fresh. We really enjoyed the food and the service from Sian was top class. The espresso martini was great shame I was driving or I would have had another.
A great restaurant and bar, superb garden out the back with plenty of seating. Inside everywhere was really nice, staff very attentive and welcoming. Cocktails were superb and great to see local brands white peak distillery being so well represented Food superb , steaks cooked perfectly and a lovely ambience in the dining areas. Not a big open restaurant but one with little areas that make the dining seem very intimate but still relax. Looking forward to going back already !! Dietary restrictions: Staff asked twice different team members about allergies ect Parking: It's Melbourne so parking not always easy , take a cab and you can enjoy the cocktails then !
Went today at lunchtime for an anniversary meal with the wife. Great customer service as always. Food was great, even though I found the duck salad overly salty, especially when paired with really salty fries. I mentioned this and the waitress sorted us out, the mark of a good resaurant, if there is a issue, sort it! Thank you!! I would still order the duck again, but would ask for lightly salted if possible. The pig cheeks were incredible as a starter, and so too the ravioli. If you go, the mocktail 'No hito' was amazing and so refreshing, it hit the spot. Finished off with the cheescake which we both liked too. Enthusiastic staff that were very attentive. Overall experience. 5 stars and will defo go again. I honestly believe you can give 5 stars even with the salt thing, due to how they handled it. Ohh, almost forgot, my pet hate is awful hand dryers in toilets. No problem here, nice powerful super dryers and a clean stylist facility. Great attention to detail. Parking: No great as it's street parking, so pot luck there. But there is a car park and lots of side street only a short walk away, so no issues really.
Went here for Sunday lunch as a belated birthday treat from my son. Staff were attentive but not pushy.. They knew specials etc.. Food was really good.. It's slightly expensive but for a special occasion its well worth a visit.
I've waited years to visit and finally got the opportunity this summer thanks to some vouchersI received for my 40th birthday. I have to admit, I was sadly underwhelmed with the experience. The staff were fantastic and attentive, Harriet in particular was a lovely girl and provided a service with a smile. The manager was also very pleasant. I don't know if because we had to choose from a "voucher menu", that we weren't getting the type of food I'd heard about all of these years, but I was disappointed with my starter and main. I had the goats cheese bon bons. It was OK, but the portion was very small in comparison to others we saw coming out. For my main, I went for the mushroom pasta. It was massively bland and tasted as if the sauce was made from a condensed mushroom soup can. It lacked any flavour which was disappointing. In the plus, my other half had a great steak. It melted! 5 stars for the steak! The garnish looked like a pre-packed bag of mixed salad/ baby spinach which took over half the plate and was just thrown on. The decor was dated and the music was a little more "evening" than day time. This hasn't put us off visiting again however as the other menus look great; including the garden sharers. Hopefully just an off day as we want to utilise the garden which looked lovely and try something else.
Lovely couple of hours in the garden, staff were lovely and food was amazing.Food: 5/5
