I recently visited and had a BLT bagel with a coffee. The bagel was really tasty and fresh, which I loved! The coffee, while decent, wasn't anything extraordinary. The café had a lively and busy atmosphere, which I appreciated, but the space is a bit tight. If it had been fully packed, I probably wouldn't have stayed. Also, the long seats weren't very comfortable for a longer visit. Overall, a good experience with great food. Food is very well priced too!
I've lived around the corner in Bermondsey Street for six years and went to Al's Cafe for the first time this week. My partner has been by himself a few times when he says he needs some carbs. On this occasion i decided to go with him and I really enjoyed my veggie breakfast with my fried egg well done as requested. They said we could take our dog inside and gave her a sausage which she ate in a matter of seconds. It's a well executed traditional cafe or greasy spoon serving an array of breakfasts along with sandwiches and jacket potatoes. The service is prompt and super friendly. The interiors are clean and welcoming. On my visit there were a mix of locals, office workers having meetings and tradespeople. It is a great place to enjoy a traditional breakfast which is value for money.
At a relatively high price point, the breakfast is a bit pricey for what you get. One could argue that the location and ambiance contribute to the cost, but it's still an expensive meal for what's offered.Food: 4/5
Really good food at Goodvalley loved them mural on the wall inside parking like anywhere in England a problem but not such a problem here as the street is quite quiet but you will be on yellow linesFood: 5/5
Al’s has a family run feel that is precious amongst the estate agents and mindlessly “posh” pastry places. The team made me feel welcome and served a generous cheese Abbas mushroom omelette with fresh salad and slaw. Thank you folks! To the rest of you, use it or lose it!Food: 5/5
A good honest cafe. The food is great, decent prices too. They recently stopped including tea / coffee in the breakfast cost but it's still excellent value. The staff are friendly and the food arrives quickly. Can't ask for much more. Highly recommend.
I had a good full English breakfast here and freshly squeezed orange juice. Fast service. Close to Tower bridge, Tower of London, etc.Recommended dishes
If like us you want a surprise of a breakfast brunch or whatever head into the intimate setting of Als Cafe. A bit tight in seating with a main door close by that makes for drafts chilling nearby tables, it serves generous steaming hot platters and plates full of tasty good food. The hostess Oznar if I recall correctly was beyond friendly helpful and smiling as she served us. I’d highly recommend her warm chat along with the food. My full English breakfast satisfied cravings of the same and kept me warm satiated and happy. Simple homely fried eggs we requested for no runny yolks and they delivered well on buttered toasts with ham slices, a large mug of steaming mocha and equally large mugs of coffee and tea were just the thing as it drizzled outside. The real surprise? It’s so cosy and pretty inside with a plaster colourful mural of the Tower Bridge, delicious aromas wafting from a busy kitchen like it would at your grandmas home. Loved it all! I understand it’s popularity as we got the last table and several people waited outside till they got a seat. Well done Al
Cozy family-owned cafe, fantastic for breakfasts as I didn't try any meal besides breakfast. Definetely reccomend!
This is a posh greasy spoon! All the offerings of a posh cafe Salmon, avocado, poached eggs etc... as well as proper cafe choices full english. So there is something for everyone. I got my usual breakfast here, which I have sampled in my London cafes and it was fresh, hearty and delicious. One of the best. They have Cumberland sausages here which are meaty and flavoursome. Good coffee/tea selection too. On another occasion I got a jacket potato here with their coronation chicken which was fruity with a well balanced curry flavour. It can get quite busy at lunch, but there is a little green opposite so you can take your food away and enjoy it there on a sunny London day!
