Akamba Garden Centre - The Palm Tree People - A bit of Kenya in the West Midlands

Story

Akamba Easy Exotics Garden Centre - The palm tree people and a garden centre like no other! We offer an exciting range of cold hardy exotic plants including ferns, palms and also have stunning metal sculptures of African animals and birds. Butterflies, birds, and beautiful plants - wander round the centre and stay for a drink. With a bar and a great venue with seating, we have regular BBQ evenings and nights with live music.

Chris has a great passion for exotic plants, exotic places and Africa in particular. He has been growing plants since he could walk, on leaving school at the age of sixteen his passion for ice skating took him to an olympic level at speed skating, where he represented Great Britain in the olympics, aswell as sports he has been a glass blower, fashion designer, artist, sculptor and gym instructor.

Akamba was founded in 2002 after years of growing hardy exotic plants but never being able to buy them locally, Chris decided to source and import them himself, The plants combined with a love for African art created the perfect recepie for an African garden centre.

All the African art is fair trade, Chris and Kel know all the artists and their families on a personal level and work very closely with them to achieve the standards and finish required for the western market.

The plants at Akamba are often cold grown without the aid of vast green houses, this helps them thrive in our chilly British winters.

During the years at Akamba Chris has worked on many TV gardening programmes such as Challange Tommy Walsh, Garden Invaiders and has featured on BBC Gardeners World.

At Akamba we offer all services ranging from garden design, venue hire, plant hire or a simple chat on the telephone to answer a query.

Our gardening services include:

Landscape Design - Home & Commercial

Went at the weekend. Bar and restaurant very nice indeed. Reptile centre and aviary was shut up and closed. This was one of the best parts of this place. It looked messy and uninviting. Shop was closed earlier than it should be. Unfortunately, it's gone down hill to its former glory. Please sort this wonderful place!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited on a weekday, to try out the restaurant. Hadn't tried any of it before, our daughter loved the chicken nuggets, my partner had a lovely paying and I can highly recommend the vegan dish that I can't remember the name of, but the flavours were so unique. Amazing atmosphere a bit cold inside, needs more heating. We visited a few years back in the summer, lively garden shop and beach area. I was upset to see the aviary had closed, that was a fantastic experience, it needs to co.e back with some added iguanas and tortois wondering around or a butterfly farm. I love this place and the metal art, I worry that its hoing down hill when it has heaps of potential.
Very nice and interesting place. Good collection of plants and crafts. Has a good bar and restaurant which serves good range of food and cocktails too. All in all a good experience for families looking to take a break out in the weekend.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
A recreation of a jungle type of watering hole/bar friendly greeting on entering by the Security staff, friendly bar staff, music entertainment was fantastic, the food was excellent, I really enjoyed the Goat curry with rice, very authentic Caribbean cooking style Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Amazing just amazing ,during covid the live reptile and animals had to be rehomed, hopefully when business builds back up to original status we could hope they come back as they were amazing for education to children about animals its a amazing hidden little gem ,it's a must see ,breakfast to tea it covers all aspects of carribean food .
It was ok, rather run down place. We went on a drizzling wet day which didn't make the place any more attractive. Lots of animals made out of bits of metal etc. Some plants for sale and a cute little shop with souvenirs mostly African themed. Maybe less dreary on a sunny day.
Garden centre part not a lot to choose from, and as they are specialist plants, quite expensive, you can tell that a lot of the plants have been there for a long time, due to their size and price tag. The restaurant area looked amazing, a wonderful setting with all the iron animals and decor. We didn't purchase any food so couldn't comment on the food or drink, but there were plenty of people in there. The iron sculptures are wonderful! Such amazing detail, you can see all the hard work that goes into them.
Unique place with lots of animal sculptures and some plants. Felt like a hidden jungle oasis with a nice cafe and a lot of indoor/outdoor seating areas. Staff were all lovely.
Went today as I thought it’d be a cute date for me and my boyfriend. I’ve been here twice before and both times were great. However I was disappointed to see that the bird walk and animal centre were cut off/closed : eerily quiet for a SaturdayVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Really cool place for a quick look around. We had a drink and a tuna melt was lovely. The sculptures are impressive. We enjoyed it and will be back when that way on again.
