Abbeyhill electrical were contracted by my grandparents to install a couple of lights into their attic. The lights were a couple of bare bulbs suspended from grey wire not flex and had a plug attached. Totally incorrect wire for the job. They had attempted a feed into the attic and changed their mind; this feed was very much live and was left taped up and dangling dangerously close to the attic entrance hatch. They had the odacity to charge my grandparents a lot of money for such. I contacted them expressing my concerns and they agreed that they had made an error and would refund the costs. Guess what.... they sent a debt collector to my grandparents both in 80s, one with dimentia, one with cancer for the outstanding balance. A cowboy company with no scruples!
Great electrician if you're needing a fuseboard replacement. I got in touch with Abbeyhill to arrange a date and time for our fuseboard replacement and they were very helpful to sort a time that worked with my schedule. The work was completed quickly without any problems. Would highly recommend.
I had heard good things about this company, but the first time I made an appointment for a quote, they didn't show up. They didn't even return my call, when I called them to say they were supposed to be here! When they did show up two or three weeks later, they were apologetic but did seem very good at ascertaining what needed doing I am getting a full rewire. But they said the quote would take a couple of days. I chased them after a week of waiting. After finally receiving the quote, I have been waiting for a response from a further query about what is included as it was not clear if the plasterwork is included. That was 6 days ago, and still have heard nothing. So far they are not at all impressive. It's like pulling teeth. Does this reflect on the actual workmanship? One can't tell. But they are unable to prove themselves because of the poor customer service beforehand. What a shame! I wanted very much to use them, but they are let down by their pre-sales service.
I have used Abbyhill Electrical several times over the years and have always been satisfied with their work. Their workmen have been courteous and I have never had to wait too long for an appointment.
Never phoned me back. Spoke to them on Friday. They promised to call me back.on Saturday afternoon. They never called me.back!
I have just add some very concerning and clearly upsetting dealings with Abbeyhill electricals: - They sent 2 inexperienced people most likely apprentices under the "mobile phone guidance" of a certified electrician - at least that's how they came acrossto do an EICR. None of them were capable of discerning 1 mm cables from 1.5 mm cables, neither were they capable of discerning a main ring circuit from a main ring circuit with a spur. - They deemed three circuits to be non compliant: one had an installation compliance certificate provided, the second had a small load wired to it over a 1mm cable protected on RCD + 6 amp breaker, the third was a ring main with a spur which they were not able to recognize as such.. Overall, they clearly tried to intimidate us and extort us for further unnecessary work to be carried out, and they topped it up with rude manners and behavior. The most despicable of all is their attitude: since I could not be there during the inspection due to work commitments, my wife had to be present - and they jumped on the opportunity to try and panic her into agreeing unnecessary remedial work inclusive of opening newly plastered walls and ripping apart a beautiful solid wood flooring to be carried out - ploy for which she fortunately did not fall for. Following their visit, I have had the circuit and their claims checked by the company that certified my contentious circuit less than 3 years ago and they confirmed that all circuits were compliant and told me that for the price I paid the EICR and work to be carried out rewiring and RCD protection added to our immersion heater circuit , I was bond to face such a situation.
