Was sent here when my daughter needed an urgent out of hours gp appointment. First up the underground car park was all closed down so parking was a nightmare even for a Sunday. There were cars parked everywhere including all the way up the small winding road leading up to the floor needed. The out of hours waiting room isn’t sign posted, no one around to ask directions and took a while to locate as haven’t been here before. It was in the minor injury department which was small, quite dirty and dingy! It was full to the rafters with people who were coughing, spluttering and complaining about the waiting times. No one had a mask on. The receptionist was not very professional and not very helpful. She was more interested in getting back to her conversation with a co worker than actually helping people. Even when I requested a water sample bottle which the gp told us it was to much trouble for her to get off her seat and get one. Although we had a pre booked gp appointment the wait was over an hour. What’s the point of an appointment system?! Three stars was for the gp who when we finally did get to see him did attend to my daughter. He looked after her really well, explained himself and I thank him for his swift and professional support in diagnosis and in treating her. I wouldn’t go to this hospital out of hours unless you have time to wait and don’t mind being coughed over!
Most traumatic time of my life spending time on the bedwas ward with my father here for 2 weeks, no one cares, no one tends to patients, no basic care, no communication, no medication administered. The ward is supposed to be one to one but you won’t get anyone to help at all. Most staff can’t insert needles to administer drugs so just don’t give them any, patient nil by mouth but nurses don’t know so bring porridge, milk etc, even the information board applied to the previous patient that used the room along with his meds still stored in the bedside cabinet .The list is endless. Absolutely no care whatsoever,. Needles to say patients pass away due to neglect. New Year’s Eve 7 out of ten staff rang in sick and Xmas day 8 out of ten staff rang in sick, I only gave one star because I had to
Got admitted to this hospital due to asthma by my asthma nurse Claire as I was on site at the time having an asthma attack . All I can say is wow I was in for 6 days . staff on Bedwas ward and mau ward staff are just fisrt class thank you all doctors nurses and auxiliary please pass. This on to senior manager
Took my mother for an x-ray, she has Dementia and resides in a specialist nursing home so this took a lot of organising, the staff were absolutely hopeless and I told them! Never have I witnessed such inept and uncaring behaviour, after a lot of huffing and puffing refused to do the x-ray as she may be seriously injured?? This was the whole point of the x-ray! My mother had had a fall a week previously and her GP said to get her x-rayed just in case. We walked out after an hour, went Ebbw Vale the next day- brilliant! All sorted with the minimum of fuss, shame on you all at Ystrad Fawr!
My experience was absolutely amazing Having a baby at the maternity ward was incredible. The staff and midwifes are absolutely amazing and I would love to say big thank you
I went in on Fiday for a carpel tunnel op. I was in at 7am and home by 9 15am, Mr Hak and his team were brilliant and so efficient. I wish I could use this hospital for everything.
Lovely staff, but not enough of them. Parking structure is abysmal, and the doors are locked so you have to walk on the road and over mud to get back to the car park from minor injuries after 21:30
I need two ratings for this review; Medical professionalism 5*, in and out for an out patient"s appointment in less than 15 minutes, everything fully explained and mind put at rest! Then we come to that information board in the main entrance, if you have never visited the place before, never, under any circumstances, waste valuable moments of your life trying to decipher it, ignore it and go straight to the glass fronted office and ask "where is so and so"? I had an appointment in dermatology, dermatology is part of the out patients dept and doesn't exist in relation to the info board, but you are not told this, "report to dermatology" I was informed, totally frustrated! Can I rate it minus 1*? Besides this, can't fault the medical staff!
I arrived at 19:40 on Saturday 12th February, as my 14 month old son was feeling unwell, high temperature. John Hayward-Payne. We were not told that it was a one parent hospital policy on the telephone 111. In fact I had to drive my partner and my son to the hospital. After dropping off both my partner and son and proceeded to reception the receptionist on duty was very rude and patronising regarding a policy I was not fully informed of before travelling. Also questioning as to why my partner arrived from a different part of the hospital to what I advised when dropping her off. Felt like I was being interrogated. I was actually only asking if my partner and son was seen already, and safely arrived in the correct area of hospital I had arrived in, as they were not in the waiting room. I was immediately pounced on and almost scolded for being there. If I wasn’t allowed to wait with my son and partner due to a hospital policy then that was fine, even though we weren’t initially advised by the GP on 111 for which the receptionist scoffed, “they never do.” But my question was simply to ensure both of my family members were there as I couldn’t see them. In this situation a better attitude would’ve been grateful, especially as I was worried about my son.
Sent by GP to Minor Injuries Unit at YYF. Receptionists would make excellent Lighthouse Keepers, ie. work alone, no people skills. Same for Triage nurse. The Nurse Practitioner was friendly, thorough and efficient in my examination. The hospital is clean, there are screens in place and you need to wear a face mask.
